I need ideas! I am single parent and both of my boys break up from school tomorrow! I need ideas on what to do with them, which doesn't cost a fortune as on very tight budget. My eldest is 11 middle 7 and 20 month old. Any ideas would be really helpful.

Museums, parks, scenic drives are always relatively cheap.

Museums have good air conditioning too.

Dont be afraid of things like Contemporary Art Museums either, you might be suprised what you guys enjoy in there. You don't have to go to school for a thousand years to enjoy art - it is truely for everyone.

there are books in library along lines of "rainy day play" - get a copy as has good ideas eg indoor picnic - make the picnic, make a tent in the living room out of a sheet, the bath can be the paddling pool etc. And of course all the other excellent suggestions of parks, beach, museums. If u have a garden, beg, borrow or steal (just kiddin!) trampolines, slides, swings and send em out to play. The odd video doesnt do any harm either. Make a collage with flowers and leaves that uve picked out on a walk. Have them help make lunch and dinner. Have them play tidy up the house. Just keep em occupied some time and let them lounge about sometimes too.

You must have a local park, if so then take them there as the youngest will be your responability and the other two will get on with things, encourage them to bond with others that they may not know as it will keep them amused while you tend to the wee one.
What about bike rides, if your boys have bikes then why not invest in one for you with a baby seat for you wee one. You can venture out more and more making your bike rides longer and longer taking a picnic with you.
Same goes for when you go to the park, take your own food and drink with you. If you don’t have a park that is local then look up a park that is a bus journey away as kids go free and don’t forget to take you picnic, some balls or anything else you boys would like to play with.
Not sure if you have a garden so not sure to give you ideas of what to do in the garden.....
Even going for a walk to pass the time can help and keep you all amused, even if it means you saying that you are walking to McDonalds for a mcflurry for a treat, at the end of the day you get the boys out walking and it will only cost you 4X99p. Worth it to get them out.
Have lots of other ideas but need to know your circumstances? Do you have a garden? Is there a green for the kids to play out on, are you on an estate? Things like that.
Any who good luck hun as the summer hols is not an easy picnic. lol
Just remember that you need your own time out...

I always love a picnic...even the plainest sandwiches taste better sitting on a blanket at the park. I love the library. They now offer the internet free, for the older ones. You can rent a movie at the library for real cheap. Libraries around me offer kiddie/parent time with coffee, milk, and cookies for you and your younger one, and your older ones can play some video games on the internet, or read in a quiet corner. Buy a big container of already sweetened "juice" crystals and let them have a lemonade stand. It takes time to make the sign and set up the "business". Plus they can make a little money for something for them. Good luck.

Make salt dough figures easy to make and cheap, my boys use to love painting their action figures that they had made themselves. Take them to the park for a picnic ( you have to feed them anyway so its not gonna cost any more than usual), take a football. Send them looking for different leaves (print a list off of the computer) and send them to find them call it a nature day.. Also anything to do with water is always fun if you don`t have a paddling pool just give them a bucket full and different plastic bottles etc, trust me they will have hours of fun. . Also tescos do bags of playing sand at really cheap prices, (I put the sand in a small cheap (tesco) kids pool, they loved it. Have fun all the best.

Keep them on a schedule. Chores, fun time, field trips with the family, rest time in the afternoon......so that they still have structure but, not real rigid.
libraries have great summer programs
papers list free things to do
museums
parks
fishing
dollar store for fun summer stuff
garage sales.........give everyone 3.00 and let them get some new toys
picnics
kites
buy a small pet like a hermit crab or fish and set up a habitat
camping in hte backyard

Help them build a magic fort with blankets and clothes pins. Go to the library with them and find adventure books for the oldest to read to the younger ones in their fort. Help them come up with some activities based on the book they are reading, it could be a play they do for you acting out the characters. It could be pictures they draw based on the story. Have your 11 and 7 year olds keep a journal of their summer. Go to the dollar store and get them some nice hard bound note books for their journals. Try teaching them to cook, starting with cookies and working up to chili or chicken and vegetables. Anything that you do with them will be cherished memories, especially if they keep journals of the summer.
Try to think back on your childhood and what you would have really enjoyed. Remember how much imagination you used at that age and you will come up with lots of ideas!
Good luck!

I dont know where you live but maybe Pack up some sandwiches and drinks and head out to the beach. Maybe let them invite a friend that is both of theirs. The park is always fun too. Is there a community swiming pool? There is one here and it is 5.00 for adults, 3.00 for children under the age of 17. Take them to get their own library card and check out some books that ya'll can share at night before bed maybe? that is a bonding time for ya'll and they chose the books. Hiking?
