I've been to the Bahamas and while I was a little culture shocked by people following me and wanting to braid my hair or buy something, I really didn't go with any expectations of what I thought it would be like. A lot of the people rely on cruise ships for their source of income and tipping is very important to them (while I didn't tip while in Nassau). If you balance a Bahama vacation out with other places (such as CocoCay, a private island owned by Royal Caribbean), such trips are very enjoyable!

The Bahama's are not the best place to go if you've never been to the carribean....most people have these expectations about the Bahama's and they are unfulfilled because it's not the plush, tropical paradise it's made out to be. I was there in June, and I had been there once before, and it hadn't changed...still kinda bland. I don't know what you expected for a pool on a freakin cruise ship thats about 20 years old...at least 10 or 12 years old....The pool and slide are great.....it is a "boat" you know....

My husband and I went to Cococay and Nassau. Nassau wasn't what I expected but I loved Cococay. It is actually an island owned by the Royal Caribbean and it was beautiful! I would go again but probably to the Caribbean instead of the Bahamas.

I agree, it wasn't what I expected either. I went on the Disney cruise(excellect). The first time I went on the cruise I walked through Nassau. The second time, I stayed on the boat.

Most caribbean Islands have great beaches and hotels and then a few blocks away poverty. There are a few exceptions, but you just expect that in the Caribbean. If you want to go to a beautiful island and not see any poverty anywhere, go to Bermuda. I have also heard that the Turks and Ciacos are also poverty free islands.
