Invite a friend round pretending to be a survayer as you are thinking of moving. Get your frind to say the roof is unsafe and you'll need to move out while the work is being done. Go on holiday and hey presto you'll come back to your own space again.

Tell him you're putting the room up for rent and give him a month to pack his stuff and find a new place, and interview some people and make him see them to get your point across that you are taking this very seriously. If he asks you if he could stay longer, tell him that you can't afford supporting him anymore unless he gives you the same amount of money the renter does (or close to it). He should also be giving you money for rent, a portion of the utilities, and also please stop feeding him! He is a grown man and not a child for crying out loud. After I graduated college, I got a job and paid for everything and since then never asked my parents for a cent. I can't believe a grown man like him couldn't even buy and cook his own food.

Unless he has a mental/physical/emotional handicap, he should be doing something with his life. I would wonder how he pays the one bill that he pays if he doesn't work. ?? Anyway, if you're the one in charge of the household, give him an ultimatum. Tell him you expect more from him as a house member and lay out exactly what that is. If he doesn't wish to comply, he should be told to find other accommodations.

If he is going through depression, I would get him help. If he is just lazy, I wouldn't persuade him, I would tell him that it is time for him to get up out of bed, stop watching TV, get a job and start making a contribution to your household financially and also with the maintenance of your home. I would also let him know that it is time for him to move on with his life, and you will help him do so by helping him find a place to live. Start circling the job ads in bright colours that pertain to him and leave them in his room on his pillow. I would definitely make things less comfortable for him there, it sounds like he has a cushy little set up with you. You are being taken advantage of. Good luck!

Tell him that if he doesn't start pulling his weight around and helping out you'll chuck him out the house. He's taking advantage of you. Tell him to go find a b-and-b instead, then he'll have o get a job to pay for it.

Tell them you are broke, and have to sell the TV to pay debts (move it to Friends house) then ask them for more contribution.
start cooking really vile smelly food and pass wind a lot it worked for me!
but do give them a good reference for the next landlord so they actually get a place to rent.

PS Is his surname Evans?

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Imagine the language inherent in the picture of all his things all packed up and ready to go, standing in front of his now-padlocked door, bearing a large sign reading EVICTED!

If he does not get the picture, then I suggest a frying pan liberally applied to his noggin.

I think I would just have to tell him. Especially when I got to the fed up point. Sounds like you are there. If he doesn't work how does he pay one bill???

well, first, let them know you are fed up. Give them two more weeks. No steady job, then no more home. Unless you really want them out, then just give 'em a week notice. Something along the lines of"Ya gotta go, buddy!"
