If you follow the theory of evolution, where did everything come from? You can't have something come from nothing - that is simple physics, so what was before the big bang?

I knew I would get an answer like that, acgsk - just answer the question, please!

doesnt matter. We're here now, and I for one am very grateful.

Besides, you'll find out when you die.

The theory of evolution has nothing to do with the inflation theory, popularly known as the Big Bang theory. The theory of evolution is a theory in BIOLOGY and the inflation theory is a theory in COSMOLOGY. Conflating the two is deceptive and fallacious. By the way, don't try arguing "But, you can't have one without the other!" NO, YOU CAN. Disproving inflation theory doesn't disprove evolution as the two are in separate fields. Besides, all that would mean is that the universe arose in another way. (maybe plasma theory, *snicker*) Also, your question "what was before the big bang" seems ridiculous. Considering that time was not formed until AFTER the Big Bang, it is ludicrous to ask what happened before the Big Bang. As Stephen Hawking once said, "It's like asking for a point a mile north of the North Pole." Time may have been a circle at the onset. We simply don't know yet.

EDIT: Interesting Holy Kenny; gotta check that out.

It could be that time itself started there, rendering the question meaningless. It could have been a collapsed previous universe. In any case, that sort of situation is pretty hard to study, since there's no good reason why physical laws would hold back when everything was a singularity.

By the way, cosmology has nothing to do with the Theory of Evolution, which only concerns life after it already exists. Abiogenesis is another topic altogether, too, though it's much easier to speculate about than the Big Bang.

Nothing came from nothing. The components necessary for life have been manufactured through billions of years of star birth and death, lightning, and basic physics and chemistry. There is no greater truth than physical law, accept it.

The current consensus is that prior to our universe being born there was a previous universe encompassing all the same matter and energy. It collapsed in on itself like a great black hole, and 'exploded' at the moment that physical properties (such as the gravity holding it together) ceased to exist.

Your question is based on a fallacy: Namely that evolution and creation are incompatible.

If you believe in a literal 6-day creation that may be true. But if you instead are willing to believe that the beginning of Genesis describes the creation of the universe in broad terms, then suddenly we don't have issues.

Evolution is not an attempt to explain the origin of the universe.

The correct answer is "we do not currently know".

Scientists have the strength of character to admit that fact. Creationists do not.

The current theory of M-string theory supports matter and time existing prior to the big bang. Your question is moot.

That is something science has yet to figure out, they are still seeking answers. That's what's good about science, it's never stagnant, it's always looking for more answers. It's harder than just saying god did it, but well worth the time and effort. God did it isn't really an answer either, it's just a saying based on faith, no evidence.

who pulled the trigger of the big bang? it's a leap into irrationality

its like pulling a rabit out of a hat, without a rabbit, without a hat and without a magician

dont be surprized if in the 21st century the big bang is abandoned because it has little usefulness and does not explain the data and has many problems like the horizon problem

according from evolution...everything came from protozoans and things of the nature....look into it...it's really intresting, even though im not an evolutionist

Exactly, you can't have something from nothing. So where did God come from?
