I don't get this. How does some people killing the Son of God make that be able to happen? Shouldn't we have been punished, not saved?

Jesus was absolutely perfect. He was the only person that ever has or ever will walk the earth that committed no sins. Prior to this people gave sacrifices to God to forgive their sins (animals). However, once Jesus died He was the ultimate sacrifice. No other sacrifice was needed. Now, you have to believe that Jesus is your Savior. That he died for your sins and rose again, and that He is the Son of God. You're right, we should be punished. But Jesus took the punishment for us.

Jesus dying is the important factor here. The cross was the means used by the Romans who were in control of the government at that time to punish criminals. The reason Jesus was hung was because the leaders of that day in Israel knew who he was yet didn't want to give up their wealth and popularity.
If you look in several of the old testament writings (Psalms and Isaiah etc) you will see many indications to who the Messiah would be. The Israelites were well aware of this and especially the religious leaders yet they had him crucified based on blasphemy (saying that He was the Messiah).
Now the reason Jesus had to die. There had to be a substitute. After Adam and Eve sinned they brought sin into the whole human race. Their was sin in their blood. And when a baby is born the baby gets the parents blood. So the baby was born with sinful blood. Look at what happened right after they sinned. Satan in the form of a serpent is told that he will be defeated by the seed of the woman. Eve and Adam have a child and then another. The one kills the other because he is jealous because he does not give God his offering in the right way but his brother does. If you look down through history to the point where Jesus was alive even Satan has tried to kill off the descendent of women who would defeat him (example: children ikilled during the time of Moses and finally Herod trying to kill the one who was called Messiah). When Jesus was born he was born of God (by the Holy Spirit and was placed into the mother womb so he did not have the blood of any parent but God.
Animals were sacrificed because the blood was where the life was and animals skins were used to cover Adam and Eve after they sinned. Man had to make sacrifice because they kept sinning and the animal's blood sacrifice could not keep them covered. The ten commandments and the law just show us that we are not able to keep the commandments and law because we are sinful but we should strive to do so.
Jesus being fully God and fully man came and lived a sinless life he kept the law and commandments of God (not man) and he was able to die once for all mankind so that all may be saved who accept this gift. I am just a sinner saved because of what Jesus did for me. But now when I sin God looks at my sin and sees that my sin is covered by the blood of the one who died for me. I still have to confess my sin but I am forgiven not because of what I have done but because of what Jesus did.

There isn't any absolution that comes from jesus being at the move. Am I a catholic? Hell no, as a matter of fact that the tale of jesus at the move is an allegorical illustration of non secular talents, like so much of the bible. In this situation the move represents the alignment of the chakras (vigour facilities) within the frame and the resurrection is symbolic of the difference that your frame is going via whilst the kundalini serpent ascends, it's reborn, just like the phoenix chicken, to provide a brand new and greater frame. There isn't any proof both archeological or in every other writings that deliver proof of crucifixion being utilized in and round Jerusalem at any time in historical past, giving the tale little or no credence.

Katy, great Q! Kill Jesus = our sins forgiven. WTF! How does killing a guy have anything to do with that? Its so arbitrary its not even funny! Why not claim the "flood" and noah's arc were made to wash away our sins, at least thats a bit of a metaphor. Thank you Katy, I previously only thought the bible was dumb in general, I never realized how rediculous this specific part of Christian belief actually was.

--edit--
example from our beloved Amber (answer above)
"Because in order for sin to be atoned, blood must be shed, and not just any blood. It must come from something that is pure and blameless." How does this make any sense? Who made up this crap? Arbitrary, totally arbitrary.

--edit--
only the shedding of blood can cancel out sin?? Good F***ing LORD! This religion is worse than i thought. Maybe thats why xtian-wanna-be GW keeps slaughtering people in the Middle East, he's cancelling out sin.

Adam was the first-born son. Adam was to resist sin and obey God. He did disobey God so therefore sin was introduced into the world. When he did, satan had the key to death (notice in Genesis when God told him he would die 'someday'' among other things). Somehow blood shed was necessary for the atonement of sin(i.e. in the Old Testament how they use to kill animals and sprinkle the blood). So since no man after Adam was perfect and knew 'no sin'. God sent Jesus to die on the cross for the atonement of our sins. When Jesus did die on the cross, he got the keys to death back. So now when we die on earth it is not an eternal death. We can have everlasting life in Heaven if we choose God and opppose satan. We can get our sins forgiven in Jesus name because His blood was shed and opposed to the animals' blood in days of old. I hope this helps. May God Bless

If you read the Old Testament, when ever soemone sinned, they killed an anilmal; a sheep, a dove, etc, according to the sin. Only the shedding of blood can cancel out sin. Jesus' blood was shed once and for all for the sins of the world. All you have to do is confess with you mouth and believe in your heart, that He is the Son of GOd who died for our sins.

Because in order for sin to be atoned, blood must be shed, and not just any blood. It must come from something that is pure and blameless. It's the meaning of sacrifice. In the OT, people could atone for only their own sins, and it was with an animal or plant. As you can understand, a goat's blood payment could not atone for the entire world's sin. There had to be Holy blood shed. Since no man born to this earth is holy, God had to it because He is blameless, perfect, and holy in every way.

The bible says, without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. In the old testament the people had to sacrifice a dove, sheep or bullock to pass their sins over another year. When Jesus came as a willing sacrifice He was the perfect sacrifice and we no longer have to sacrifice animals. That's why we are saved by Jesus if we accept Him.

People didn't kill Him, He offered Himself. Our sins would have made us unacceptable to God, but He loves us and doesn't want to lose us. To make us clean for Him, he came to earth as a person and when the time for the cross came He took all our sins. Everyone of us, shoplifters, robbers, murderers, dopers, sleep-arounds, cursers, drunks, cheats, liars, all of us and all our nastiness He took on His back. The beating He took was for us, the nails were for us, even dying, that was for us. When He did this for us it was a substitute so we wouldn't have to die for our sins. He already did it. It's like if a car was coming at you and your dad jumped in front of the car to push you out of the way. He gave his life for you. You can understand that, well Jesus did the same thing, but He did it for all of us. Haven't you ever heard the saying "It wasn't nails that held Jesus on the cross, it was love!" That's what it means, He loves us so much He would die to save us.

God is a very loving God, but at the same time He is righetous and just. His law shows that there has to be a penality paid for sin. In the old testament people had to make blood sacrifices for their sins. They used goats and lambs and such sometimes even grain offering for things or turtle doves, but the idea was they had to transfer the cost of sin onto the animal and the animals death paid for the sin, but the animal had to pure without blemish or spot.

The animals were only to cover the sin that they had committed and none of them could cover all the sins that they made what if you died before you made your sacrifice were going to go to Hell???

Well Jesus came down to earth and taught. He taught about the kingdom of Heaven and the love of God. He taught that the only way to get to the father was through the Son. He is the true lamb all of the old sacrifices were like a foreshadowing of His sacrifice. God is everylasting. He was in the begining and He is in the End He knows all of time all the time He was able to transfer all of the world's sin past present and future sin onto Himself and paid the death penalty for all our sins. He was our blood sacrifice and He is the only one that was truly pure enough without blemish to remove the sin from our lives. Thats why we are saved.

The people didn't kill God's Son. I mean technically they did, but He could have stopped them. He willing gave His life to them. He laid His life down for all of us. He came to pay our debt that was His purpose. I know its all a bit confusing, but I hope this helps. If you have any questions email me I would love to talk about it more. If you want to know more about God. I can show you lots of things about God in the bible or if you want me to pray about anything with you or for you please just email me and let me know. Peace and God Bless
