He should have been the biggest fundamentalist in the world, but even he saw the evidence presented as supporting only evolution as the most viable theory.

bear naked: That question makes me cringe and laugh at the same time. Please go to school. If you do not truly know the answer to your question, then you need some more education. 6th graders should have a better understanding of evolution than that.

none: This is number two on my list of tard arguments that fundies give. The idea that Darwin recanted his entire life's work is a Christian urban legend. Darwin's own daughter who was with him until the end even wrote that this was absolutely preposterous.

The Catholic Church does not take the story of Creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe it tells religious truth not historical fact.

The religious truth is that God created everything and declared all was good.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

With love in Christ.

i have found that those people who are against evolution know nothing of chromosomes, genetics, mutations, and the like. I am studying genetics right now and if there's one thing I've learned is that there is room to believe in God and acknowledge evolution. In fact some of the most fervent believers in God are scientists. To see compounds undergo reactions and know that everything we do is dependent on them is very humbling.

Do I believe that a random spark in the primordial soup initiated the formation of amino acids and the like? No. Everything has to start somewhere. I am a Deist really. I believe that God made the universe to be self sustaining, so evolution works very well in my belief system.

How we got here really doesnt matter. What matters is that we are here. We think, we feel, we live. Isnt that enough?

You didn't watch The Simpsons last night, did you?

Regardless, you must remember that even the Pope is human, and that being the Pope doesn't make him correct about everything he says regarding religion. Maybe he wasn't truly faithful, and that is why he accepted evolution. Maybe the bible does allow for evolution, if only you interpret it differently. When it comes to religion, interpretation is the key. This is an issue of freedom.

"Freedom is freedom to say that two plus two makes four. If that is granted, all else follows."

I am actually a Jew, but that doesn't incapacitate me in answering your question. I think it really has very little to do with the actual belief in religion, as much as it has to do solely with interpretation and the freedom to interpret.

I wish you all the best!

Bear naked, look up allopatric speciation. It might be instructive for you. None, why are you repeating the Lady Hope hoax? Heck, even Answers-in-Genesis says that this is an argument creationists shouldn't use! Even if Darwin DID recant (which he didn't), it wouldn't affect his theory at all. Evidence is what matters, not opinion in these cases.

Does a popular belief or vote ratify or create truth? No. There have been many false sciences in the past and even now that are accepted as truth. Take for instance the past belief that the earth is flat. As I look out my window, it still looks flat. I believe the earth is round from reading books and seeing purported photographs from outer space. Evolution has become an accepted science based on a faith introduced in the 1800's that the Bible does not report accurately the history of the world (Charles Lyle).

I believe that only evidences exist for evolution. As well, there are evidences of creation. You have to examine and choose. Niether side can be proven completely. Do you accept on faith that the earth is round? Or do you have to prove it to yourself by walking around it? I believe the God who created this universe has deliberately left out the absolute proof of creation. His attributes are obvious in what has been created (Romans 1:20). Your problem is that you have to have to come to God on His terms to see Him.

Since God created everything he created science. So evolution is possible in some degree.

But is it really a fact that evolution really happened?

If so why did Darwin change his theory at the end of his life saying evolution was wrong?

1 Corinthians 15:
39 All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. 40 There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another.

2 Corinthians. 4:4
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Jeremiah 10:12 - He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.

1 Corinthians 2:
5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. 6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought.

A Russian communist newspaper once explained that they did not need to teach atheism directly in their schools. The could accomplish the same purpose by teaching "the foundations of Darwinism." (HRQ, p. 63)

2 Peter 3:5 - For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water.
