Try a solution of teatree oil, available at most healthfood stores or herbal shops. Dab on the bites with a cotton bud.
Another good thing to try, which is also good for heatrash: Make a strong solution of linden flower (also known as lime blossom or tila) tea, about 10 bags for 2 litres (quarts) of water. Allow to steep for about 15 minutes and then add to a shallow, cool bath. Remain in the water for at least 15-20 min; if you use a sponge or facecloth make sure it's a new or clean one (no soap residue to irritate the skin more.)

I have tried all sorts of treatment. Tea tree oil, tiger balm, camphor oil, clarityne, fucidin. None works.
By chance I found a solution. I think it's not found online.
COCONUT OIL & SEA SALT. Mix them together (more oil so its not too scratchy and easier to rub). Give a good rub down to relieve itchiness. Wash with soap to rid the oiliness. Not only you won't feel itchy in the next 12-15 hours but have soft exfoliated skin. Note: during this time I already had broken skin from scratching but found the oil and salt scrub tolerable. Pls test before rubbing
It usually takes me 2-3 weeks to heal. Itching usually lasts 2 weeks. With this treatment it's 3 days. Only did 2 times of oil n salt mix within this 3 days. After each session I put a few drops of coconut oil & lavender to reduce scarring. I continue the oil & lavender every night after shower. No salt scrub as it no longer itched.
Picture: Less scarring & bites don't look so red and weepy.
My skin type: Dry and sensitive

I had like 40-50 midget bites and they are itchy as hell. Tried antiseptic creams, cleanser, ice but this is what worked for me at the end. Boil water in a kettle. (hot enough to make coffee but not as hot to give you severe burns) . Take cotton and apply that hot water directly on every bite mark. you will feel the burning sensation in just 2 seconds and it will be painful but hold it there for 10 seconds (bigger the lump ...longer you keep the cotton on it). and you will have instant result... it will stop itching. you will have the red marks but you will be able to sleep. It was 10 minutes of pain for me but FFS it stopped itching. you will not feel the burn after you are done with it. and as everyone said do not scratch...
Desperate times call for desperate measures.

This works fine for fresh mosquito bites... might work for those midges as well...
Try putting a dab of liquid dishwashing liquid on each one. It kills the itch almost immediately.

Any good anti histamine cream should relieve the itch, but the golden rule is don't scratch, and in the future put on some insect repellent. As they say prevention is better than cure !
