I am South African and have recently returned from the UK, where I lived for 3 years. I love the place and want to go back. Law says any one of 4 grandparents being British will get you an ancestoral visa. I have 8 British great grandparents, but even that sheer bulk won't hack it! However... one of my grandmothers had a British passport and went to school in Kent - but she was born in South Africa.

Would anybody know if an Ancestoral visa may be acquired through a grandparent having a British passport or must they have been BORN in Britain?

And...

If it IS possible, what would I need and who would I go through to arrange the visa?

Thanks anybody!

Ancestral visas require that your grandparents or parent were BORN in the UK, if they acquired a UK passport but were born another nationality.

however if you or your parents were born in a UK embassy, military hospital on a UK registered ship or plane you can still claim a UK citizenship.

Visa's would be arranged through the UK consulate in Durban or J'burg, via personal application or business sponsored postal applications only
