A guy is stranded on a desert island. He's been there a long time. He is rescued by a ship. He goes straight to the cook and orders albatrose. After taking one bite, he turns and runs up to the deck and throws himself overboard. Why did he order albatrose and why did he kill himself?

This man was on a cruise. Unfortunately there was a big storm and the ship crashed on a deserted island. The man and his friend found no other live people, only dead bodies. Later, when the man was starving, his friend comes to him with some meat. They cook it on a fire they managed to build and the man, upon biting into the meat, decides that it is delicious. He asks his friend what kind of meat it was and his friend replies, "Albatross." The man sticks this piece of information in the back of his mind and continues eating. Some time later they are rescued and returned to the mainland. A few days later the man goes out to eat and sees on the menu "Albatross Burgers." Remembering the fantastic meat from the island he orders on and excitedly awaits his meal. The burger is placed before him and he takes a big bite. Then a puzzled look crosses the man's face, for this meat does not taste the same as the meat he and his friend ate on the island. Then the man comes to a terrifying realization. The meat does not taste the same, because it ISN'T the same kind of meat. The meat he ate on the island was not albatross at all, but human! The man is no longer able to live with himself after he makes this conclusion, so he commits suicide.

I'm thinking that this might be based on the Old man and the Sea...The guy is stranded on an island. All the time he is there, an albatross flies overhead. As a ship passes by, someone notices an albatross flying overhead and knows that there must be a patch of land nearby. The ship travels toward the albatross and notices the island and the stranded man. The man realizes that the only reason he was rescued is because of this amazing bird. After he takes one bite, he realizes that he just ate the only friend he truly had.

He was stranded on the island with his friend and wife who both died. The wife died first, and the friend who dies next cut up the wife to eat it, and gave some to the guy and told him it was albatross. When the guy tasted the albatross, it tasted so different, that he realized what he ate wasn't an albatross, but his wife. Shocked, he killed himself.

And for the record, I hate riddles that have long-winded, completely not black-and-white answers ... it's not a riddle ... it's a "how well does your imagination work" torture test.

He thought he could flly if he ate the albatross. He was alittle crazy after being on the island so long.
