Some people have no tolerance for different beliefs, even if they're generally accepted as false (i.e. pertaining to cults, etc.). There's nothing wrong with not wanting to discuss beliefs that you don't agree with, but I don't like when people get overly defensive or aggressive or begin to attack the person.
Others feel that you are what you "ingest." That is to say, whatever you read, hear, see, etc. will affect who you are and what you become. They don't want to be subjected to beliefs that differ so much from their own, and as a result, they come across as very narrow-minded...
Oh, and nobody can really expect anybody else to accept different beliefs, but it might be reasonable to ask a person to listen to them. However, if one person doesn't want that, both parties should compromise on the issue amiably and simply drop it. Too many people don't listen when the other person says "please don't talk about that" and that's sometimes why people react so defensively and rudely. I'm not condoning it (in fact, I prefer it when people can listen to and/or debate - but not argue! - other beliefs, even if they disagree strongly with them), only trying to explain why some people might be like that...

What ever you have heard all your life becomes your truth, even the obvious can seem to be a lie when you hear it if it is different from what you have been lead to believe.
Your idea of reality is formed by what you believe to be true. When your beliefs feel threatened, your idea of reality feels threatened also.
This can be very scary. It can feel like your very idea of reality is under attack.
To sum this idea up, it is human nature to see anything that does not support a particular thought system, as being an attack on that system of thought. This is where all of the defensiveness is coming from.

Well, obviously if your beliefs are mutually exclusive to theirs it is a direct threat to their reality. Also, just by disagreeing with them, you are putting yourself in a position of superiority in the sense that the implications are that you are correct (smarter) and they are not. Finally, we silly humans tend to judge all new information against what we think we already know (i.e., what mommy and daddy told us when our fragile little brains were still soft). If I *think* I know something, and you say something that contradicts what I *know*, it automatically puts me on the defensive. The initial response in such a situation is automatic denial, then mental rejection, and in certain peoples, an outwardly directed anger...
When talking about Christians, all they really have is the dogmatic principle put forth in the buy bull. If it aint in the buy bull, it simply aint true, and is just plain old heresy. We all know what they would do to heretics if they had the opportunity...

I am a Christian and a Pastors wife. I have asked the same question. I have learned that the one who plants the seed of faith is not necessarily the same one who will see that person become a saved born again christian. If someone is looking for faith then they are on the right track. Its better than having no hope at all. Everything happens in Gods time, not ours.

"What makes non secular people interior an similar faith attack one yet another?" a diverse view of an similar topic. we are all persons and are weak to disagree with quite a lot something. some people can disagree properly and some won't be able to. i'm particular that maximum christians may agree that christians are sinners and are purely kept from their sins. even as the objective for a christian should be to stay away from sin, it isn't plausible because it is going antagonistic to human nature. If the bible indexed respiration as a sin, purely the useless ought to stay away from that sin. sex is a huge one which leaves people feeling in charge.

hey Tina, I like your answer...
I'd also like to say that no one wants to believe that they've spent their whole lives believing in something that isnt true. The fact remains that there can only be one truth... the question is, who has it? Are any of us even close? Does it matter?
We'll all find out when we die. ^_^ I cant wait.
