We never miss anything we haven't had. So saying that I must remind you of WHY you quit practicing your form of religion. FOR that is what it is.
I too, was raised in a strict Church. That is ok...sometimes a good way to live, but it does not get us to Heaven.
Only Yehsua can get us to Heaven.
Today, it is rare to find a church like we use to have. I miss those ole time preachin' tents.
My Mom, 88yo now, told me, we will never find the perfect Church, we just need the fellowhip, and people will always disappoint us...JUST keep our eyes on Yeshua.
I too, have fallen far from the regular church going. I sang Gospel music, played in a Bluegrass band, traveled a lot. I am Messianic and no Temple or fellowship here.
My friend tells me I am too hard on myself as I feel guilty not being in fellowship. I get a lot of fellowship on the net. even here on Y!A I am blessed by those like you.
I can give a lot of excuses, but I have not turned away from G-d. I live w/Mom and it is just hard to get her going. Her church is so BIG and what a wonderful church it is, but I do not belong.
I do not think it is important to make an appearance just to let others know I am still serving a living G-d.

I do believe it is a witness to our neighbors of which side we are on if we go to Church.

As to the "penticostal" way of life, they use to call me a Bapticostal,lol.....but there was/is nothing to that way of dress, I still wear long dresses. Just follow Jesus, not the crowd......

Just remember, "if it satisfies you, L-rd, then it satisfies me." Let that be your prayer. If He has us on a mountain or on our knees, either way, be satisfied.
Visit different churches, you be surprised you will find the penticostal way is not the only way. Just check out which Bible the Preacher is preachin' from and listen to him a few times to see if it lines up with the Word of G-d.
It is important what you believe so do not compromise.

Even though your upbringing may have been a"little" strict, you were a righteous person. You can find a church and still be a lover of God without such strictness. Be careful that you do not let your guard down, and give Satan a foothold in your life. See if you can find a Calvary Chapel close to you. That is a fairly new denomination; even though they are non-denominational. They came out of the Assembly of God in California. They believe in verse by verse Bible teaching and maranatha type worship music. They are not ultra charismatic. There are about 2500 Calvary Chapels in the USA. Look for one. They love Jesus, and they will love you. They are very casual-you may see people in shorts. They will accept you just as you are. Try them-you will not be disappointed. Good luck-stay safe.

It would be easy saying join this church or that, but it's your choice alone. I do not agree with the way you were raised, but that's my opinion. It's possible the holy spirit has touched you to return in some way to God, as well ask here. Ask yourself what you do or not like with this church or that and visit another. You do not have to belong to a church to take God in you wherever you are. Don't feel pushed, take your own time, follow your heart and head and not a preacher or a certain church. Learn the church doctrine as well before you join and pray.Prayer brings you closer.

Well it's a major lifestyle change any way you look at it. You are free to believe anything you want, and there's nohting wrong with making a few of these changes to accommodate your preferred lifestyle. However, if you make a large draw from the way your life used to be, then you're going to feel a slight emptiness. Just do whatever you're comfortable with. If you wish to no longer attend church, just go once a week for now, until you feel more comfortable with going less. Ease yourself out of your old lifestyle. Good luck.

The reason you were raise that way was for your protection even that it was a little extreme, but check the positive by been raise that way , your husband will respect you more of course if he is also a believer. you were closer to GOD, the reason that you are not happy is because communion with your first love is in pause, yes he is drawing you back, remember in scripture says instruct your child in the ways of the Lord and even if your child is old will never depart from it. God loves you, please come back to him, even with short hair. Like the prodigal son's father was waiting, the same way He is waiting, He'll give peace, you need his communion. God Bless you my dear sister in Christ.

I belive it is God calling you back. While I don't belive in somethings, like not wearing jewlery, the other things you said where actually good things. I go to a holiness church, but we also walk in the liberty that Christ has given us. All that you can't wear this, you can't do this, is putting people in bondage. Christ came to set us free, not put us in more bondage. If you truely seek God, He will show you the way. I pray that God speaks to your heart and leads you to a church that you will fill comfortable at, but that will also allow you to walk in liberty while you serve the Lord. May the peace that surpasses all understanding fill and guard your heart and mind. Be blessed.

Try the website beliefnet.net, there's lots of good info on all religions or just being a spiritual person. Who says you HAVE to be affiliated with any religion??? Take some of the quizzes the website offers and see where you fit in. I did and ended up becoming a Unitarian which doesn't fit into any one category but respects all beliefs. There's lots of info out there, find what fits you.

Check out a lot of different religions. Investigate each one, and sincerely weigh your feelings. Pray earnestly, and if you still don't feel that you've found where God wants you to be, then go home.
