Each airline has its own rules. For example, Southwest Airlines prohibits pets except for guide dogs.

Some allow you to bring small pets in the passenger cabin as long as the carrier fits under the seat. Most airlines that allow this restrict pets to two per flight (one per passenger) so you need to get your reservation in early.

Other airlines require pets to go in the baggage compartment. The cargo hold is climate controlled so there is no risk to your pet.

You'll have to call the airlines and ask what their current policies are as they do tend to change. Some routes prohibit pets completely even though the airline may permit them on other routes. This is usually due to local restrictions against any pets in terminal buildings.

international or domestic? If it's domestic it shouldn't be so hard, Even with all the problems I still fly Delta only, they've still got decent customer service.

Boston got it all right.

Call ahead, shop around. Availability and fees vary. You have more options earlier.
