It's the flavor, based on the ingredients in the beer....for example in a Hefeweissen, most people put a slice of lemon.....or a belgian white (which is often brewed with dried orange peels) a slice of orange.....so it's all in the flavor :)

Corona is a little more heavily hopped than some other beers, making it quite bitter. A lime is typically used with alcohol (mainly tequila) to help smooth it out and get it down. Mexicans normally drink the stuff without limes though.
I am not a fan or Corona, there are definitely better beers out there. Also, in my opinion, any beer that needs a lime shouldn't be drink.
Also, Corona's advertising is responsible for some of the lime craze. They actually tried to register the silhouette of a beer bottle with a lime wedge in the neck as a trademark once.

Are you talking about bugs getting in there right after the bottle is opened? Are there that many bugs flying around down there? Seems kind of unlikely.
I think it is because Mexico is a hot climate and beer get that skunky musty taste and smell. The lime clears it all up.

That may be why it was started, but now it is done because of taste. The Corona beer taste fabulous with a lime wedge.

I agree that it has to do with taste...I've had Corona with and without the lime and it does taste different (I prefer with the lime). Some people also salt the rim of the bottle..

Because in Mexico the mexicans put the lime over the top of the corona bottle to get the flys out of it...

Yeah, it tastes better with a squeeze of lime in it, and if you add a little salt to the rim of the bottle it's really tasty :)

i suspect its a way of providing cheap sterilization to the neck of a bottle that may have been dirtied in so many foul ways. by sucking the beer through the lime or lemon you not only hardly touch the mouth of the bottle, but the acid disinfects it in case you do.... can i have best answer?
