...but I cant stop thinking that I chose to do the wrong thing. I have a one year old, got a kitten 3 weeks ago. I loved this kitten, it was so calm & funny to watch etc.. anyways the bad news is that we have a rocker recliner & some time during the course of the day friday this kitten must of crawled up inside and when one of us went to rock our baby to sleep the kitten ended up paying the ultimate price. So on goes the story that I kept thinking that the kitten must have ran out the back door when I opened it to let the dogs out because I hadnt seen it in a few hours until aroung 930 pm when I lifted the chair & found it. unfortunately it was not dead but suffering severely with a crushed skull, (im sorry to anyone reading this, I hate to even say it) so of course I cant find ANY vet at that time & after 45 minutes of trying to call someone and seeing this thing suffer I had to let my husband "take care of it" And I cant get it out of my head, I havent slept good, I feel so bad!!

Wow. I'm sorry for your loss but you had no way of knowing the cat was up in the recliner like that. Things will get better and after time you will forgive yourself and most likely get another cat!!

It is unfortunate that the poor kitten died in such an awful way but you didn't intentionally do it and to let it continue to suffer would have been inhumane. If you didn't have any remorse about it's death then I would be worried about you. I hope that you will soon find comfort in the fact that you did the right thing and that you heart will heal soon from this accident.
My husband tried to save a bird by feeding it and giving it water and it choked on some water and died. He felt very guilty and for several days was depressed over the situation but he came to realize that he was trying to do what was best and the pain has healed.

I'm very sorry about your kitten! We have recliners and I am always afraid that one of out cats are going to get in there and then someone is going to close it and kill one of our cats but we rarely open up the recliners. But anyhoo, I'd suggest you don't get another kitten if you have still have that chair. If you were to get another kitten and kept saying you and your husband would always make sure the kitten isn't there before you use it but even tho you might say that to yourself, accidents happen and it could repeat...

You have every right to be this upset!! You're probably feeling as if it was your fault..you could not have known that the kitty was under the chair..it was purely an accident..a horrible accident but JUST an accident.Stop beating yourself up over it..get another kitty and just make sure you know where he is before you rock in your chair. If you brought him to a vet you most likely would've had to have him put to sleep..he was suffering..I don't know how your husband "took care of it" I hope it was in a humane way..if so..I think you did the right thing.

Bless your heart!!! I have heard of that happening so many times. You have to know it isn't your fault! I am so sorry that happened to you . I'm afraid to say I would've cried my heart out over that. We have 3-three month old kittens my husband told the children they could keep. Along with our adult cats...I can't even imagine how much that has hurt your heart. Again, I hope you're okay and I am sorry you had to go through that.

Of course you're upset and for good reason. Try not to blame yourself though. This was a very unfortunate accident.

Terrible things sometimes happen to good people who mean well. Don't dwell on it - do something useful to help you get over it. Like volunteering to help other kittens at the local shelter to help you get over it.
