Just today, I read in Readers Digest that laughing is one of half a dozen ways to keep your brain sharp.

Aside from that, I'd say it's a great way to keep us from going nuts when things bother us (as long as it's not overused or hiding a fear, a hurt, or an anger).

There have also been a number of studies which looked at the benefits of laughter to health, with positive outcomes. See some of my links.

Further, it's just a direct way to lift one's spirits and bring a positive outlook. Something about laughing, or even smiling, makes it hard to stay focused on negative things, even if that's where your mind was before you cracked a smile. :-)

The French philosopher Voltaire apparently said, "The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease." (Or something similar; I've seen it quoted three different ways, on various Web sites.) Oversimplistic as it may be, there is doubtless some truth to both the nature and the humor parts.

A proper laugh (after relief) relaxes enough muscles and thoughts, helps serotonin and melatonin get distributed, so people feel good for a while, prolonging life and helping a little get satisfaction and sense of purpose in the future.

Not honestly Chadders right here, its his inbred hillbilly knife wielding mrs. Jolly well! When I bought my little e-book, a long time in the past, from Dr White, it said three days of slight inconvenience. I expect Mrs White had whatever to mention approximately that!
