By being saved, I mean, what I always hear..."accepting Jesus as my Lord and savior."

Good question. Have fun with this one, I'm sure you'll get some extremely interesting responses. Religion is a scary and touchy subject.

"Being saved" is NOT just a few words or a prayer. It's a lifestyle. And if you really want to go to heaven...then you DO need to say those words but you ALSO have to mean it, by doing what the Bible says and trying your best to actually act like a Christian. You can pretend for other people that you are a Christian, but God knows you better than you know yourself, and he can tell when you mean it or not. And BTW, following the Bible does help you to be an all-around better person anyway. It's not like you have to start walking around reading it all the time or anything. Just try to read a little bit more every night before you go to bed or something. It's not too hard.

Paul had an amazing revelation when the Gentiles turned to Jesus. They had never been taught the laws but yet followed them to the letter. It has a certain verse in the Bible: Study to show yourself approved. It is nice to know about the things of Jesus and to learn of His love and compassion. I had an uncle that never lived a day for the Lord, when he was older he gave his life to the Lord right before he died. It will tell you in the Bible that there will be 100 year old babies. We read and follow God's Word so we can grow. We all start out as babes in the Lord through His word we learn and then we can grow in the faith. Through faith we find that nothing is impossible through Christ our Lord.

To be a member of The Church, of which Jesus The Christ is The Head, one must be "saved". That is, one must go to God in The Way He proscribes and receive God's Gift of Salvation.

This is probably the hardest thing any mortal will ever do... for most at least. To say that "all it takes" to get to Heaven is to "get saved" shows a compleat lack of understanding of God's gift of Salvation.

One need not have great knowledge of God's Word to "get saved". But one dose need to accept That God IS...And That Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life.....but even befor that comes the hard part... Facing the truth of your self... if you can not face the truth of yourself then you can not face God.

It just aint as easy as you might think... to get yourself into Heaven...... it is a whole lot easier to get into hell.... you do'nt have to do anything for that.

You do not follow God's Word before you "get saved"... you follow God's Word after you receive you Salvation... and you do so because you know it is The Truth.

If one has been saved (baptized -buried in water and arose a new babe in Christ) the he has followed God's Word and will continue to follow until his dying day. You can't just be baptized and throw your hands up and say "Alright, that's it". That's absurd. You must live faithfully all the days of your life. Otherwise what's the point of being a Christian? In order to be saved one must:

Hear - Rom 10:17
Believe - Heb 11:6
Repent - Acts 2:38
Confession - Matt 10:32-33
Baptism - Mark 16:16
Live faithfully - Revelation 2:10; Romans 5:1-2

Part of Being saved IS following God's word

As you can see, this question provokes so many responses. I would like to give a fairly concise answer to this complex question. The word of God principally tell us the plan of salvation.

In the old testamnet man had to offer sacrifices of unblemished innocent animals for redemtion. That had to be repeated every time sins were committed and was thus temporary. The blood of the animal was the sign of atonement. In no way could anyone through their own efforts be justified in God's eyes. Not even if you sacrificed yourself as you are sinful.

Jesus christ was the last and final sacrifice. For our sins committed and those that we would still commit. Daily we should ask for repentance, a reminder of his sacrifice for us. God cannot accept us once and then deny as later. Once accepted, always accepted. He stands to His word.

So to the question of following Gods word, once we have reaned the plan of salvation, accepted Christ, we will then use the Bible as our handbook for life. If you follow the instructions you will be blessed and live a spritual life. If you don't, you wil reap the cosequences. Parents punish teir children for wrong and bad behaviour, so does God punish us.

If we had to always work for our salvation, the purpose of Christ would be meaningless.

Guess it depends on what you mean by being saved. If you mean you repeated what a whole lot of other folk were saying, and it seemed like a good idea at the time, I doubt it means much. Sort of like the guy in the back seat of a car trying to make out with a girl and saying, "Oh, but you know I love you!" Doesn't make it true.

What Must We Do to Be SAVED?

A MAN once asked Jesus: "Lord, are those who are being saved few?" How did Jesus reply? Did he say: 'Just accept me as your Lord and Savior, and you will be saved'? No! Jesus said: "Exert yourselves vigorously to get in through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will seek to get in but will not be able."—Luke 13:23, 24.

Don't buy into the "being saved" stuff...it's a crock. Heaven is in the HERE and NOW not some reward held for after you croak. Make your life a Heaven on Earth by being mindful of your actions...attempt to benefit others through compassion/empathy...love those closest to you...respect others belief systems despite their being different from yours...respect the environment...promote goodwill and spirit. Do these things and your life HERE and NOW will be Heavenly. PEACE!

We can be saved when we accept Christ. After that, we can just as easily become "unsaved" if we push God out of our lives through a giving-up of our faith or through serious sin.

"There is graciousness, then, in God. There is also severity," St. Paul writes to the Romans. "His severity is for those who have fallen away. His graciousness is for you, only so long as you continue in His grace. Otherwise, you too shall be pruned away" (Romans 11:22).

The verse above makes clear that a one-time acceptance of Christ, while certainly a necessary start, is not enough. It is not a guaranteed ticket into Heaven.

Paul's words in Rom 11:22 are clear in that we must "continue in His grace" or else we "will be pruned away."

Christ did His part for our salvation by dying and by rising from the dead. Now it's up to us to do our part, by remaining in His grace as Paul said, so as to avoid being "pruned away."
