Joseph Smith Jr. (1805–44) was the founding prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Church members accept his revelations as scripture and believe that through Joseph Smith the true gospel of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth. Joseph Smith grew up during a period of great religious revival. In the spring of 1820, fourteen-year-old Joseph prayed to God for guidance to know which church to join. God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to him and told him to join none of them. Three years later, Joseph was visited by an angel who instructed him about a sacred record of an ancient people who lived on the American continent. In 1827, Joseph received and translated this record, the Book of Mormon, through divine assistance. In 1829, John the Baptist appeared to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery and conferred on them priesthood authority. Joseph was then instructed to organize the Church of Jesus Christ on April 6, 1830. In Kirtland, Ohio, Joseph established a bank, newspaper, and printing press; set up the presiding priesthood structure of the Church; and supervised the building of the Church's first temple, where priesthood keys were restored from Moses, Elias, and Elijah. Further revelations called for a gathering to Missouri to organize Zion and a new economic order designed to enable the Saints to live in harmony. In Missouri, the Saints faced enormous persecution, including the imprisonment of Joseph Smith, and the Saints were forced to leave the state. In Nauvoo, Illinois, Joseph served as mayor and as the leader of the municipal militia. He also introduced plural marriage and temple ordinances. Tensions with non-Mormon neighbors grew and culminated in the martyrdom of Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum at Carthage Jail on June 27, 1844.

The Prophet Joseph Smith did not establish a new religion, but initiated a restoration of the everlasting gospel of Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith taught that God is a glorified, exalted person and is properly called Father. God created the universe out of chaos; and the universe is governed by law. Because spirit is refined matter, Joseph Smith rejected the extreme dualism between spirit and matter. The Prophet also taught that revelation is ongoing through living prophets and that the scriptural canon is fluid. Joseph Smith revealed that God saw fit to institute laws whereby his children might advance like himself and have glory upon glory. Man is free to embrace either the powers of God or those of evil. The Prophet rejected the traditional theory of original sin. He taught, instead, that Adam and Eve transgressed to open the way for the contrasting experiences of mortality. While the purpose of life is joy, life is a trial, and one cannot attain the heirship of the Son without being willing to sacrifice all earthly things. Redemption comes through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Joseph Smith also taught that priesthood is authority and power centered in Christ and that a progressive series of ordinances confers spiritual enlightenment and power. Some of these ordinances are performed in temples, including the holy endowment and sealing of families. The Prophet instructed the Saints that the Christlike life reaches its zenith in marriage and parenting. Joseph Smith also spoke on social, economic, and political themes, as well as on the resurrection, truth, and prophetic statements about the future.

Joseph Smith is not founder of LDS, but the Mormons of Mosourri. Supposedly, he found the book of mormon buried after a vision of Christ appeared to him. Followers gathered on the back side of a strung up bed sheet and wrote down what Smith, and only Smith, could read aloud from the other side of the bed sheet from the metal pages of this Book of Mormon.

Source: history books. Suggestion: when the Mormon missionaries knock on your door ask them why they never send the women.

The best way to have your question answered is to go directly to the source. Why not look in your telephone directory under "latter Day Saints" under churches and ask them? If you are sincere in your question and really want to know ask. But if you want to play games, do not waste their time or anyone's time.

So the FLDS are breaking the regulation in all places. So, valuable attempt. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it would not fairly artwork as a results of fact they are 2 diverse circumstances.
