Hezbollah is not Lebanon. It is not a legitimate government. It doesn't even run Lebanon. It just controls a small part of Lebanon. So you are asking the wrong question, because it is possible to be on the side of both Lebanon and Israel. Both should be fighting Hezbollah.

It isn't a war between Lebanon and Israel. Lebanese troops are not fighting. It is between Hezbollah and Israel. I side with Israel all the way. People think they are going overboard, but if Lebanon could control their own territory, this would not be a situation. There is no way the U.S. would allow a thousands strong force to control, say, Michigan and keep lobbing missile at Windsor & kidnap OPP officers. We would have taken them out ourselves without needing Canada to clean up our problem. These arab countries need to help the Lebanese army to take control of their land, then there will be no war.

Israel. And it's not a matter of Israel or Lebanon. It's a war between Israel and the terroist group called Hezbollah who are hiding in civilian locations throughout Lebanon and launching missiles from civilian locations at Israel. The hezbollah terrorists are the ultimate cowards for shielding themselves with civilians. If you are indeed Lebaneese, why do you tolerate this? Why don't you join with Israel to rid your country of these murdering terrorists?

For me its not a matter of wanting to take sides; I just want a peaceful coexistance between all the people in the middle east. I know that may be naive and unrealistic but there are countries in the middle east where Jews, Christians, and Muslims live and for the most part get along. Can you imagine what it would be like here in the US if every minority decided to go to war to assert its rights. Then again, even though things are by no means perfect here, its not necessary for us to go to war with each other. I definitely believe that two wrongs don't make a right - they took two of our guys who were soldiers so we're justified in bombing their civilians on the chance that in the process we'll get some of those we consider to be bad guys. What I really don't understand is how we can go to war in Iraq to "defend democracy" and yet support Isreal's ongoing persecution of the Palestinians. No wonder other countries think our politics are a little opportunistic and truly have more to do with the price of oil then really caring about human rights. Maybe I'm totally wrong and would gladly welcome someone pointing out some facts that would make me see the error in my thinking.

Well I think this is a conflict that isn't totally justified for either side. The war isn't with Lebanon as so much as its with Hezbollah. If those soldiers just weren't taken... you know. But at the same time is Israel any better than Lebanon for bombing in response.
I really feel like there are better ways to handle such a conflict.

The situation has been going on far too long and is far too complicated for simple right and wrong judgments. No doubt all parties are guilty of atrocities at various times, and there will never be a consensus of opinion on whether Israel should exist at all. Northern Ireland shows that a grudging peace can only be attained when both parties are prepared to make sacrifices. It doesn't look like the Middle East situation is anywhere near that kind of resolution at present.

Israel, the country has a right to defend itself. Israel was attacked by Hezbollah, an act of war, Israel SHOULD go after Hezbollah. No one in the US believes it is a war between Israel and Lebanaon, its a war between Israel and Hezbollah. Let me know if thats not the case.

Taking sides in this conflict is especially difficult. This isn't a war between nations, it's a war between one nation and a terrorist faction. Unfortunately, however, Israel is waging war on the entire Lebanese citizenry. The collateral damage occuring to the Lebanese population is massive.

Lebanon isn't fighting the war, the question should be who are you with Israel or the Hezbollah, who are the terrorists based in Lebanon. I have no problem with Lebanon or the government there, but I do not support Hezbollah at all or the extreme doctrine they support.

I am for both Lebanon and Israel. I am not for Hezbollah and anyone who supports them, either with words, money, or weapons. If the Lebanese people are tired of Israel's attack, then they need to rebel against the terrorist organization that currently controls the southern part of their nation. It is really quite simple; No Hezbollah = No Israeli attacks = PEACE!!
