Depends entirely on what kind of syrup and how its been stored and handled up to that date. More likely than not its perfectly fine but the expirationdate on most foodstuff is there for a reason.

One great thing about maple syrup is that it doesn't go bad. When kept in the fridge or the freezer (maple syrup does not freeze), it keeps almost forever. However, if it WASN'T in the fridge..I wouldn't eat it..smell it I bet it smells rancid...
