Just go to Tahoo Search and type in Bahamas travel. You will get all the information you need. Also, you can get a quick passport and visa and it cost USD$122.50. I have been there and done that five month ago.

It's cost about $75 but if you need it sooner it's about $130 or so. I had to get mine in a hurry and it only took about 2 weeks, but I don't remember the exact price.
Regarding a passport being required for the Bahamas, no you don't need one, but you must have a birth certificate or other proof of U.S. citizenship and proper ID
The law that states you have to have a passport that supposedly took place 01/06.. I was told that wasn't going to take place until next year. And being that I just left the US to get into Canada Friday evening and DID NOT need one, and also arriving back into the US last night and still didn't need one, I think that you should be okay. But it's always better to be safe than sorry. I'd call the town/city hall in which you live and speak with I think it's the Secretary there (but you can call and just tell them you need to speak with someone regarding passports) they'll know for sure.

You may not need a passport if you are going out of the US and come back before the end of this year. But it will save you a lot of hassle traveling outside the country
and MOST IMPORTANTLY, a passport is required of all US citizens to reenter the USA starting January 1, 2007. Once you get the passport you will be set for 10 years. The web site below will answer all of your questions about passports.
Passports are issued by the US Department of State. But you can get the application
at your local post office. If not, just go online to the passport office web site
below. You will need two small photos to go with your application and you can usually
get those at a AAA office, some travel agencies do them and other places advertize passport photos. You can take your application to the post office or mail it to the passport office. If you need the passport in a hurry, you can request expedited service and pay extra for the express mailings. The normal processing time is about six weeks, but you can request AND pay for expedited service and get your passport in about two weeks. My bet is the closer to the end of this year we get, the longer normal processing will take because more people will be applying because they are going out of the country. I suggest that you apply as soon as possible.

You will need your passport coming back into the states. You can go to a Post Office that will handle passport info. The expedited fee paid by my boyfriend 3 weeks ago was about $185.00. If you can't get a passport I think a birth certificate, SS card and photo ID should be efficient. Call TSA to make sure.

If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not currently need a passport to go to the Bahamas. If you want to get one, I think it costs around $75.00.

You don't need one if youare a citizen of the united states. What you will need though is a certified copy of your birth certificate. You can get the certified copy at the courthouse of the county where you were born. One phone call to that county courthouse should take care of it.
