I'd say no, it's not. But life ain't fair. I used to work at my uncle's facility. It was a canning center. People hunt, bring in their kill, we'd process it for them, bring in their harvests, gathered berries, we'd can them. And always my uncle and the whole staff would have their smoke breaks, and I'd be left shucking 5 bushels of corn.

I've always been wierd. One day I bought a pack of candy cigarettes. The kind that you blow on and a smoke of powdered sugar came out... And I went on smoke break with them. It was a good laugh. Really! though! Why should a non smoker have to do an extra 45 - 1 hr.'s work. We should be rewarded for being healthy!!!!! :)

The question here is how are smokers getting away with taking that many breaks at your place of employment? Or any, for that matter? Two 15-minute breaks are all that's usually allowed, and a half-hour or one-hour lunch break. You shouldn't question having to cover them while they smoke...you should question why they are being allowed to take 5 breaks a day, even if those breaks are only one minute at a time.

No its not fair. I'm a smoker and yes i smoke often during my break but i do it in dead times at the job like when there's no clients and everything is done. On the flipside is it fair to cover for slackers, people that talk on their cell or the phone more than they work??? Simple answer No but there will always be lazy people that the hard working people will have to cover for.

a smoker shouldn't be taking 5 or more cigarette breaks a day. i work in an office and i take exactley 2 smoke breaks. i'm not some wimpy 5 cigarettes a day smoker either. i take one smoke break halfway between my arrival and my lunch, then i smoke to my hearts content during lunch, then i take another smoke break halfway betweenm lunch ending and when i go home. if a smoker is a nice person they will offer to let you take a fresh air break since you were nice enough to let them take theirs. anything else is just someone taking advantage of you and you should put a stop to it.

No, it's not. Everyone should have to adhere to the same number of breaks and the same time limit. I'm a smoker, and I never take anymore breaks than we are allowed. We're allowed 2 15 minute breaks (morning & afternoon), and 1/2 hour lunch break.

No, It is so true isn't it...Smokers are not as productive as Non-Smokers.... Plus, they smell like all that smoke. Yuck! Do yourself the favor & go take a little walk, ride the elevator a couple of times, refresh the makeup, grab some water, get a breath of fresh air, read an article in a magazine & take your time & ENJOY!!!!! You deserve it just as much.... Your office can't say they can & you can not. THAT"S---very discriminating!!

Why don't you take a few breaks too. I'm sure that the smoker would gladly cover for you while you went outside to get some fresh air or grab a cup of coffee. It will definitely make you feel better than complaining about them going out.

Everyone is entitled to a 10 min. break for every 2 hrs. worked. What a person does during that break is their business. If a person needs more breaks than what's allowed by law then they need to find another line of work. This goes for smokers and nonsmokers.

No its not fair, but try to tell a smoker that. I used to be a boss of a girl who tried to take smoke breaks constantly -- regardless of whether we had a line of customers or not. She just couldn't see that she was asking at the most inappropriate time.

You should talk to your boss. If they don't do anything about the fairness of it, take it up with the Human Resources department of your company and fix the problem ASAP.
