There is a verse in the OT that says something about hearing thunder, but not stopping, then hearing the earth quake or something and still passing on but then hearing a still small whisper and stopping and listening to god - what verse is this?

Either one of these?

Job 26:14 Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways: And how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

Psa 77:18 The voice of thy thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lightened the world: The earth trembled and shook.
Psa 77:19 Thy way was in the sea, And thy paths in the great waters, And thy footsteps were not known.
Psa 77:20 Thou leddest thy people like a flock, By the hand of Moses and Aaron.

Exodus 19...when Moses was leading the people out of Egypt...
16And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

17And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

18And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

19And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.
