yes it would and the diet is a waste of time anyway. It puts your body in ketosis, which is not a healthy state. You will gain back every thing you lose in a short period of time and then some. Go on a moderate diet that includes healthy foods; not just protein. Try the Exchange Diet, or Sugar busters. Dr. Atkins is dead by the way.

The Atkins science hinges on the fact that a low carb diet will put you in Ketosis. Ketosis is the strong part of the Atkins science, and it's about getting the body to burn protein & fat fuel instead of carb fuel. That's supposed to reduce the fat pounds on your body.
So restating the question, does the alchohol you drink take you out of the desired state of ketosis? You can use the ketone sticks to find out after drinking.
It's intersting that some high carb fruits don't break ketosis...and other carbs take you out in a flash. So I mean, it's hard to say until you run the test.
Somebody pointed out that Atkins (ketosis) can be hard on the kidneys. I'd like to second that motion...found out the hard way. You see debate on that issue, but I found out for sure.

Atkins is a fad diet that does not really teach you how to eat healthy. We need Carbs!
I'll tell you what is working for me:
I eat 6-8 small healthy meals/snacks a day instead of 3 bigger meals.
I avoid white bread, white rice and regular pasta but include whole grain bread, brown rice and whole wheat pasta.
I avoid junk food and refined sugars.
I only drink water during the day.
I do 30 mins of moderate to vigorous exercise a day.
I drink a few glasses of wine in the evening and I still lost 2 lbs in a week.

It's really disappointing that so many people ignore the question that has been asked and go off on some diatribe bashing Atkins/low carb. To answer your question, most alcohols don't have much sugar/carbs in them. You are right to focus on a sugar-free mix to go with the alcohol. If you happen to be a beer drinker, I recommend Miller Lite. It has always been low carb, even before low carb became popular. But check out the link below. The information is pretty thorough.

Diets don't work. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way you have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.
Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Plus click on "Pure Water" to make sure the water you drink doesn't hurt you. Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

In college, my girlfriends and I all lost a ton of weight on the Atkins diet. We also spent a ton of time at the bar, and drank a ton of Rum and Diet Cokes. It worked for us...but if you want to be healthy...stick with the water and crystal light!

It depends on how much you drink and your individual metabolism. Apparently your system will burn the alcohol before it burns fat, so you will be putting your weight loss on hold while that is happening. That said, plenty of people drink in moderation while on Atkins and still do well. As we say "your mileage may vary"

Yes It would be as the diet has a strict resgime and you do have to do exactly what they ask to get the maximum results.. That said, Im sure you could limit yourself to the occasional one as a reward for losing the weight..

atkins is a waste - its hard on our kidneys and too much cholestorol. Simply burn more than you eat. You gotta exercise and hard. No gimmic diet is gonna do it without some poor side effects.
