First I wanted to tell you that they just came out with an FDA approved vaccine for the HPV virus. However there are many many strains and it does not protect you from all of them. Some strains of HPV cause genital warts and some cause cervical dysplasia.(precancerous cells) I had the cancer one and my body wiped out the virus. I've been clear of it for three years now. My doctor explained it to me like the chicken pox. It is a virus but once your immune system builds enough antibodies against the virus it will not return.( Unless you become HIV positive) or have a weakended immune system for some other reason. She also told me once your body clears the virus that you cannot spread it. Also she said that 80% of sexually active people are exposed to the virus at some time in their lives. The only way the HPV virus can affect your ability to have a kid is if your dysplasia starts getting into a bad stage and if you have to have part of your cervix removed. (not if you do it once but if you do it multiple times) Certain strains are worse than others it all depends on your body and how dangerous the strain you get is. Also there is no HPV test for men!! If you want to know anything else ask because I researche it alot when I found out I have it. There is a really good book out too if you want to know more it's called : What your doctor may or may not tell you about HPV and abnormal pap smears. The author is Joel Palefsky.

HPV is contagious EVEN WITH A CONDOM!! Although there is no cure of HPV for men, it will go away on it's own for most women. The best way to screen for HPV is though a basic pap test. There is a chance of HPV causing genital warts in men and women. HPV lives in the skin or mucous membranes and usually has no signs or symptoms! HPV can cause cancers. Approximately 10 out of 30 of the different strains of HPV can cause cancer. A mother can pass HPV on to her newborn child through vaginal delivery, although it rarely causes warts in the throat or voice box. The best thing to do is to have a pap test annually as they can detect pre-cancerous and cancerous cells on the cervix.

hpv eh...there are several types...arnd 50. most simply cause benign noncancerous warts on the skin, fingers, cervix

certain types can lead to cancer...i think type 16 can lead to cervical cancer....best way to avoid that is to do ur periodic pap smear test for screening
if its in the skin causing warts....its not harmful but for cosmetic reasons they can b either cauterized or burnt wit an acid/gel.

There is no cure, but there is a treatment. Most doctors prescribe valtrex. Be careful if you have it because if your outbreak is internal you may not know you are having one and can spread the disease to your partner. Make sure you wear condoms always.
