How do you like this explanation of pedophilia in the catholic church?

I was actually told yesterday by a catholic that the pedophile priests weren't priests at all. No, they were atheists who infiltrated the church to have access to children. This person told me that it is a known fact that most child molestors were atheists. They actually believed what they were telling me.

As if that would be the easiest way to molest a child. OK, i'll just spend YEARS of my life to become a priest, just to diddle some kids.

Don't other perverts accomplish the same goal by just hanging out at a playground for a few minutes?

I don't know about atheists, but I don't think they are Christians. I think that if the Catholic church would obey the scripture "to avoid fornication, let every man have a wife and every woman have a husband," and stop prohibiting marriage, a lot of the pedophilia would stop. It's true that pedophiles go into careers where they have easy access to children, teachers, priests, etc. But in the church it is exceptionally un-acceptable because they are supposed to be obeying the Bible.

It think that this explaination is based a lot on the confusion and anger this person is feeling regarding the morale failure of the church in this area.

I think many of these priests were believing men who sought refuge from a nascent perversion in the cloth and found themselves unable(unwilling) to control their desires.
It is fair to say that the preisthood has been, in the past, a known refuge for homosexuals and pedophiles seeking to escape their burden through the rigors, discipline and spirituality of organized monasticism.
I would strongly challenge anyone who thinks that the celibate lifestyle drove these men to commit this dirty acts. Child molesting is a sick and evil crime committed by people with significant psychological disorder and a lack of moral character. It is not the result of being overcome with celebacy for so long that it drives a normal person to deranged sexual predation. There have been countless cases of preists having moral failures by having affairs with women. But since this is little regarded by the media and, often, the church body itself.

what better disguise to prey on young children, after all everyone trusts a priest and who would really believe their priest could molest their children ... so not only is it a good disguise, but they end up getting away with if for years cause the poor victims are told that God told em it was okay

Pedophilic Priests do what they do because of their vow of celibicy.. and the fact that if they prey on boys.. the chances of them getting exposed will be less.. Boys tend to be more ashamed of abuse, especially by a man. There is no excuse for pedophilia..

I think the reason that priest molest children (most commonly boys) is because they surpress their sex drive for long periods and eventually their hormones catch up with them and they become very sexually active and most everything turns them on, expecially young (tight skin) boys.

Try not masturbating or having sex for 40 days and 40 nights (lol) and I bet you will be so horny you will like most people that you see in a sexual way.

It is very easy to spot a fake within any organization, let alone a religious one. yet, these people have served to reach the highest ranks possible, and they tell us they didn't notice. I find it abhorrent that, the so-called Christians are defending that level of barbarity within their church which, is supposedly the "House of God".
