I heard that all rudeness questions depend upon the countries so I guess you could find a country were you could fart loudly and be appreciated for it. In North America, yes it is rude. Personally I think you should find a bathroom to fart because of the bad smell! But when you need to then do it because it's better for the health :-)

Well,.... Uhmmmm. Sort of, because if you do let one go, especially if it is a Big One, it may not necessarily be just a gas-blaster. Sometimes you get residual matter (solids & semi-solids) which can leave a noticeable stain and residual odors. . . . And sometimes it may feel like its just gas, when in fact it isn't. It could be a Load of "stuff" thats just trying to get out. The end result is that you crap your pants, and everyone will make fun of you until you can get home to clean up the mess you made.
Only if you are in the habit of farting, on a timely basis, can you tactfully let one go, coz most people will not admit to being the one who did it, right? Unless you're the one who pooped your pants and there is that noticeable stain (evidence).
Just don't fart in elevators, it can be very very bad.
Really Bad ! ! !
Or Riding the Bus, Subway, or Commuter Flight. There are times to let one go and there are times to just hold it till you can get to a safe place.
Its not always a good thing to share, unless you're betting with your best friends who can stand to put up with it in a small room, where as the loser if the first one to leave the room.

It rather depends where one is really. If it was at a garden party at Buckingham Palace, I uppose it would be considered rude, (however, I am sure Phillip has let rip with the occasional rip snorter and caused many a smile.)
However, in some societies, ( I believe one may be Tonga,) Belching, and loud farts are considered a great compliment to ones host for a good meal.
Personally, I try to avoid letting fly with thunderous alimentary explosions in mixed company, but must admit, that occasionally, in private, I am quite impressed by my own symphonic renderings. ;)

WHAT?!?! Of course it is rude to fart loudly in public! And, even though it is technically not against the law, someone can call the police on you for excessive public farting (the police would deem it a form of 'disorderly conduct' or 'disturbing the peace').

Well, the word "loudly" is inappropriate in this question. I'm going to answer the basic "Is it rude to fart in public?" question.
No. Of course, if you can avoid it, do so.
This is one of the quirks of etiquette. You are assumed not to be in control of flatulence. If anyone says anything, including you, it is considered rude and calls attention to the action. Everyone is supposed to pretend that nothing happened.
This is different from a burp, which you are assumed to be in control of. That is why you are expected to say, "Excuse me."
I don't make the rules, I just know about them!

Hell No! Why should it be? When I've got to go, I let it rip. It's a natural process which releases pressure that could build up and become dangerous to your health. I feel the same way about belching. Why should I have to say excuse me just because society does it? It's stupid to have to apologize for something that isn't your fault. You can't help that it's a natural function of you. Why waste more air on breathe to excuse yourself?

Yes, it's rude. Occasionally it's unavoidable, in which case it's best to simply accept responsibility and move on.

specific thats fairly impolite. in case you will possibly desire to fart excuse your self to the restroom. My seventh grade instructor used to assert that farting jointly as somebody else is making an attempt to eat is like spitting on their nutrients.
