What exactly is the source of my offence?

When people find offense people really offend themselves, they allow or actively will themselves to be offended. It's just a form of tyranny really to stop people doing something you don't want them to do..I am offended, it is offensive... I am throwing an "I'm offended tantrum" to make you stop whatever that thing is that I don't want you to do and instead behave the way I want you to behave.
