Hmm, it beats nothing, since you are on your feet and moving, which burns more calories than being on the couch or behind a mouse...
But cardio is also about the sustained heart rate as another answerer mentioned so you might also need to get out for a walk and do at least a *few continuous minutes* of some sweat-worthy activity.
So, Yes and No? I know, lame answer, but it only goes to show that when you get partial credit for exercise you only get partial results (calorie burn but not the cardio).
Still, this is a start. Try getting a back-pack or a fanny-pack and loading it down with an extra 10-20 pounds, and wear that all day....and when you hit those stairs repeatedly, if you have a minute or three extra to kill, try *tripling* your trips, that is, run up and down the stairs three times for one trip. :)
Then maybe you'll have a workout....add some lunges at the top of the stairs, add some heel/achilles tendon stretching at the bottom (or just wear Earth Shoes with the Negative Heel) and you are set.
Simple, huh? (wish I had the discipline to follow through on that one, but the stairs in my building are poorly ventilated and *never* cleaned up, ugh, what an ugly, smelly mess....)

I cured my sciatica with this natural treatment ( http://cure-sciatica.info )
Normally, I would not answer a question like this as my expertise is generally in medication but I had severe sciatica while I was pregnant with my 3rd child (after having had twins) and I had sciatica so bad that I was finding it difficult to walk. I tried massage therapy and physical therapy and could not take medication
I went to the chiropractor and the pain was instantly relieved. My hips and lower back were out of alignment because I had carried twins the year before. On occasion a Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) can also work but they usually only work on one joint at a time - the chiropractor will do your whole back which works faster. Anyone who does not believe in chiropractors will tell you they are quacks - don't listen.
I don't necessarily believe that chiropractors can cure things like diabetes but they can definitely relieve some types of back pain especially if a pinched nerve is involved which is usually the cause of sciatica.

Yes indeed! Exercise does not have to be of sustained duration to reap the benefits! Small amounts of exercise for short periods is also more practical than, for instance, running for an hour. But do not reward yourself with that extra candy bar!

I used to work for an armored car service and we would pick up the lunch money from these elementary and middle schools that were built back in the thirties. Most of the offices were up stairs. Beleive me,I lost a lot of weight especially when you're fighting the clock.

Well, technically you need to get your heartrate up and keep it up for about 20 minutes at least for it to do any real good. But every little bit helps- like taking the stairs at work instead of the elevator as it does burn calories. So yes it burns off calories, but doesn't do anything to improve your cardiovascular system or burn off fat.
