I have carpet in the bedroom area of my house, while tile is used for the rest of the flooring. My two tabby cats have free reign. I have several friends who are mildly allergic to cats. I'd like to invite people over for gatherings, but I dont want to make anyone break out into allergic reactions. So I want to know how I can maybe clean up my house where I can dispell most of the loose hair, especially my bedroom.

vacuum frequently. There is also a spray you can get that decreases dander on cats. I am sorry, I forget what it's called but you can ask a vet. It it the dander (dried saliva) that is the allergen and not the actual cat fur.... Once a week take a warm damp cloth (hand towels work best) and wipe the kitties down.. this helps too. If you can take the expense, buy an ionic breeze ... one of those air purifiers will take the allergens out of the air.

Vacuum at least an hour before they come over you can buy allergen reducer carpet fresh and allergen reducer febreez. Open up the windows or turn the AC up. I'm highly allergic to cats and just walking into someones house that has cats causes my eyes to water, my throat to become itchy, my nose to run and an ashama attack. Keep the cats in the bedroom while they are there and keep your friends out of your bedroom. The allergy comes not from the cat but the dander that they drop from their bodies.

If you have two cats and have friends with cat allergies, the best thing you can do is entertain outdoors. Even if you completely got rid of your cats, studies have shown that the dander or the allergen, remains on the walls, etc., for as much as 12 years later.

i've found it best if you're having people over, keep the pets in one room where the company will most likely not be going (your bedroom maybe) and before they all come over, use fabreeze alergy control (or something like that) and give the house a good vaccuuming. or mopping if its tile.

That's hard.

Dusting and vacuuming will remove a lot of fur and animal dander, and if you can vacuum the curtains or wash them. Also, wash the bedding: Like you, my kitties have free run of the house, and they get fur on everything!

Good luck!
