It actually HAS been researched and found to be healthy. Urine, UNLIKE FECES, isn't WASTE... it's left-over vitamins, water, and liquid that your body doesn't have use for right now. ((That's why when you take a vitamin, it sometimes changes color.)) It's not waste: waste is filtered thru to come out in your colon. I personally wouldn't try it, but it supposedly does have it's benefits. Do a little research online and see what you can come up with... I started checking it out after I saw a story about a Cuban refugee coming to Florida who was stranded for 35 days or something... he stayed alive by eating bananas and drinking his own urine. At the time, I thought that would kill you, too, so I started checking it out, but they actually do say it's good for you. Freaky.

Katie said that in AP Bio said it is ok to drink it once but after that it becomes poisonous for your body.

but here is something I found online:

Urine is mostly water, and relatively sterile. But this does not mean it qualifies for the recommended 6 - 8 daily glasses of H2O, and here's why: in addition to the water content, urine contains trace elements of hundreds of other things — from undigested alcohol to nitrogen and potassium, and sodium, which makes it such a salty drink. (By the way, the first pee in the morning is more concentrated; and the more water you drink, the more diluted it will be.) Urine could — in rare cases — also have some toxic substances in it, such as lead or arsenic. It can also contain trace amounts of drugs that the urinating person has recently ingested, though probably not enough to actually give the sipper any high or show up on a drug test (in case you were wondering).

But why would you want to drink your own urine, that's just nasty.

I've heard that there are health benefits, but I'm not sure if I believe that. Urine is your body's way of cleansing out the bad stuff. I'd have to research it more, but I honestly don't think there are enough benefits to weigh against the 'yucky' factor.

Here is a paragraph from a website that looks at the health benefits:

The history of drinking urine for therapeutic purposes dates back at least to the Holy Roman Empire when great urinal troths were erected in the public squares of each city-state for residents to both contribute to, and benefit from. For centuries European Gypsies have known about the curative properties of pee, using cow urine to cure Bright's Disease (several acute and chronic diseases of the kidneys which produce albumin in urine). It has also been reported that the Yogis and Lamas of Tibet reach extended ages by drinking their own urine.

It's an interesting read. Here's the link if you're interested:

Healthy urine is sterile, so it is safe to drink in THAT sense, if it is FRESH! However urine contains the waste metabolites that the kidneys flush out of the body, so drinking it will concentrate those wastes. If you have taken an organic alkaloid such as mescaline or psylocybin, they are mostly excreted unchanged, so you could concentrate the alkaloid and continue your high, but then the question becomes, Is it healthy to take drugs?

Healthy? I don't know about that...

Urine IS sterile, and is full of Electrolytes... much like Gatorade...

But it IS a waste byproduct from your body. It's all the stuff your body doesn't need, or your kidneys clean out.

WHY you would want to drink it? I don't know... maybe if you were stranded somewhere and had no other option...

But it's not going to kill you.

It won't kill you, if you were stranded with nothing else to drink, u'd be fine, but that is S-I-C-K AS ****!!! So don't unless it's the only thing you have left. So I'm not sure if it's HEALTHY but it's better than drinking nothing if you don't have any other drink. So it's pretty much between healthy and unhealthy, so it's neither. I'm not saying you can eat your poop, that's unhealthy, probably will kill you if you do it too long. Only drink your urnine if you're in a life/death situation where you have nothing else to drink.

I had heard of an indian prime minister drinking his own urine, but i don't know how far it is true. I had heard that if you drink your urine filtered than you fall sick less frequently. That minister claims never to have taken a tablet of medicine in his life. try it out if you may.

Of course YES. Very healthy, it's a therapy itself. Best if taken after night sleep, early in the morning first thing to do without even brushing teeth. There're other uses too like, gargling, spray/apply directly on the wounds, cuts & many more. But remember, it's to B your own only.

If you were stranded somewhere, your urine would be a good thing to drink if there was nothing else around.
