Everybody is different when it comes to naming their infant.
Yes I agree there are alot of names out there that are so, crazy (stupid to me, but they all tend to have some kind of meaning)

Parents need to consider the effect of the name on the child. Something different than the norm may be a good thing, given this cookie-cutter world we live in, but not too extreme.
I met an 11 year old the other day with the first name of D'Artagnon. Definitely memorable.

I think it is up to the parents and their reason for the names picked out some traditional names may be after someone in the family yet some unusual names can make that person unique. My kids names are actually a combo of both
Camron Paige (my dad is ron but the rest b/c I liked it)
Clistalyn D'nae (Clista from her great g-mom Lyn(n) her g-mom)
D'nae is what we call her - I picked it)
Daelan Lyzander (just different)
Curtis Blake ( new husband his dad, Curtis has passed & my
husbands middle noame is Blake - we call him
Blake

I was wanting an original name but when I got closer to delivering my daughter I chose a normal name. Everyone these days are out to give their child an abnormal name.

I prefer a 'normal' name that isn't too popular. I don't think it is fair to give a child a name that gets people tongue tied everytime they try to pronounce it (unless they are have a foreign name that is significant in their culture). I gave my son a common name that was more popular that I had hoped with my father's name as a middle name and a Vietnamese name for a second middle name.
Also, don't name your child after a famous person - take it from me, it's torture.

Normal names are cool and I think that a unique name is also awesome just dont name your child something they will never be able to pronounce and hate you for the rest of thier life for naming them something so hidious! There are perks to both but ulimatly you should put your self in your childs shoes and ask yourself if you would like to have that name

i was given a weird name that everyone spells wrong and that u can never find on cups or key chains (not that i like that crap anyway) but i would rather have this name then brittany or brianna (not that those names are bad but too many people are named that) so i think that u should pick a nice name for your child but not like the celebs like apple and cocoa (dogs name, and yet a humans name) and pinapple and orange and banna (soon too be human names) but go ahead if u want your child to live a life of misery and whoe (spelt wrong?) go ahead

I think normal names are least likely to get ragged on when they are in school, but also believe having an unusual names can be beautiful, I guess all really depends on the name.

Personally, I like names that are not everyday. I don't see my children as just normal, so, I wanted them to have unique and fantastic names too. I have an unusual name, and so does my husband - so it would be difficult for us to have children with common names, they would match with the us very well.

I like the original names (not nice to call them abnomral or weird) but for my daughter I'm going traditional Catherine Suzanne which is actually abnormal today since I'm not naming her after a fruit. :)
