First, thx to everyone who gave me the advice to keep him alive - he's doing great! But I don't really want to keep him forever, I'd rather set him free. Problem is he has no fear of humans, cats or dogs now, and probably doesn't know how to find his own food. He's about 16 days old I think, fledgling, still baby feathers but flies pretty well. Still eating catfood and hamburger and cereal, not very interested in the seeds I put out for him.

THERE IS NO BIRD REHAB HERE so please don't suggest that. All other suggestions appreciated!

The bird cannot be released. If it is released it will surely die. A baby bird that is raised without others of it's kind will imprint upon it's human caretaker. Even if taken to a rehabilitator the baby would be euthanized because it is unfit for release into the wild. If you do not plan on keeping the baby, your only choice for it to survive would be to find it a home with someone else who has experience with sparrows. For more information on starlings or sparrows see my site: http://www.starlingrescueandcare.bravehost.com (site targeted to sparrows as well as starlings). There is also a forum you can place a home needed post to. If you are located nearby, I would gladly take the bird in. I own 3 starlings. Stop by the site for their stories.

Ok

I hand fed a sparrow and he will have to remain a pet because he has imprinted on humans. He has no survival skill and can unfortunately not be returned to the wild, but thats fine, he is a great pet and loves to be held and played with.

That is the case for your sparrow as well he has imprinted on you and thus see's you as a parent and his flock.

As far as not eating the seeds they arent seed eaters they are insect and fruit eaters.

If you really dont want to keep him give him to someone who loves birds, or to someone who you know will love and take care of him.

you can email me questions at fatwhale90@yahoo.com

I hope this helps.

Hello, and thank you for reading this
letter. You see, there is a starving little boy in Baklaliviatatlaglooshen who has no arms, no legs, no parents, and no goats. This little boy's life could be saved, because for every time you pass this on, a dollar will be donated to the Little Starving Legless Armless Goatless Boy from Baklaliviatatlaglooshen Fund

If there's no rehabber you might try talking to a vet. But if he's acclimated to humans and pets, it wouldn't be a good idea to release him into the wild. You may just have to give him to someone who wants to keep him.

I don't think that you will be able to leave him out in the wild. he won't know how to get food or what will harm him & what won't.
