I agree, the death sentence is an easy way out for those who should be punished for their crimes.

The issue with the death sentence is all about deterrence. If this country had a death sentence for murder, you would see the murder rate drop dramatically. This would result in far fewer innocent people dying. So the question you have to ask yourself is, is it better to have a society with lots of murders and lots of people in prison for life, or is it better to have a society with a system for keeping more of its citizens safe and honest.
And if you think the US has the death penalty, think again. More people win million dollar lotteries every week than are put to death. For all of the thousands of murders, only a couple actually are put to death, so the odds of a murderer being put to death are so slim, it is not a deterrent at all.
I heard a guy one time talking about how he had planned to kill someone, but right at that time, they reinstated the death penalty in that state, so he gave up on his idea because he didn't want to die. Of course, once it became clear that the vast majority of people who commit murder would never get the death penalty, in fact, most of them go free at some point, the deterrence was gone.

I believe in life in prison...in a Mexican-style prison, without parole.
However, since it doesn't work this way, yet, I believe in the death penalty....whatever it takes to keep a killer (even if he's killed only 1 time and has been a "perfect angel" while in prison) off the the street.

I think if your going to go for life in prison then the people who have been victims or the family's and the survivors of violent crimes should be exempt from paying to support those in prison. personally I think we should adopt a 3 appeals only and the Russian method of dealing with the law breakers who get a death sentence. they walk them from the court room into a concrete room with a drain in the middle and put a bullet in the back of their head. Watched them do this with a child molester.

I like to think that everyone deserves to live, but I know that there are the ones that really don't deserve that. Even if they are sentenced to death, they live for a very long time in prison.
I am a firm believer in an eye for an eye unless you can justify why you killed the person. Then we'll talk.

That is probably the most sensible position.
As long as the justice system is run by humans, fallible humans, the death sentence is a bad idea.
If a person on a life sentence is later proven innocent, he can be released and compensated to some extent.
If that guy had been executed, would they be able to bring him back to life?

Then people like you should have to pay the medical bills, food bills and so on for the criminals that should have rec'd the death penalty but instead will live out life in prison. With cable TV...Internet access...3 good meals a day....exercise facility...and so on.

The only problem with life in prison is that criminals get accomodations.. despite their solitary confinement. Though death may be fitting, it's probably worse to live a life of guilt, and that's justice. It really depends on the crime...

Some "people" (Tookie Williams, Richard Speck, Jeffrey Dahmer) do not deserve to pollute the air we breathe. Where guilt is clear and not challenged, fry them. If there is any question of guilt, life w/o parole.

i am also not a supporter of the death penalty. prisoners should not just linger in their prisons, they should be productive and pay their debt to society in manners of labor. they should labor for constructions of infrastructures and propagation of agriculture. they should be bound in the neck with electronic shock devices that would not let them wander off from a designated grid. we should not be appalled by this, because it is their undoing in the first place. by using them as laborers we can strengthen man-power and progress government projects. of course, they are paid in minimum wage for their efforts. their earned money will be used to buy food inside the prison (food will no longer be provided by the state but is commercialized) , they can also buy commodities but of course of regulated goods only.
