I get a little pissed when I see these Superficial woman dressed up to modle and give irrelevant answers to vital questions. They seem to have a very pampered life and I am just wonder what did she do to earn that title? Nothing, I would rather see a woman who is a mom, career woman, or just a person who has actually worked to acheive some unattainable job and title in addition to assist tirelessly to the humanitary efforts!

I think all those pageants are just a way to advertise the products that sponsor them. Sex sells anything.
The little girl pageants are watched by pedophiles, and I think they are disgusting.
The other pageants are also trashy, glitzy ways to capitalize on looks and other superficial "qualities," instead of kindness, determination, and courage.
If important qualities were emphasized, amputees who survived cancer, or a refugee who survived genocidal wars, or a 5 year-old who survived a fire to go on to learn ballet, those people would be our heroes, and recipients of cash awards to make their lives easier.
The duct-taped, spray-painted girls who wiggle across a stage and breathlessly gaze into the camera and say they want "whirled peas" would be the freaks.
Mrs. Universe is in the same empty basket.
And no self-respecting man would be in any silly, tragically lame pageant. Not for anything, but money and sex.
I would not want to be in a pageant even if I was the most gorgeous person on the planet. If you're beautiful and you don't use it against others, you can have lots of confidence and get your way a lot. (until you are about 35) If you're gorgeous and don't use it, you have a chance to become a really lovely PERSON. by being unselfish, unspoiled. Someone who pulls her own weight and doesn't allow anyone to give her special treatment, because she has earned her place, that person has my respect.
Who would you rather be? Who would you want your daughter to be?

I think I kind of agree with you. I don't have anything against beauty but this is putting too much importance on it. It's teaching an already beauty concious world that beautiful people get all. It's putting too much emphasis on looks. These women might have a lot of other talents but I can bet there are a lot of talanted women out there. The to pick some because of their looks as Miss Universe/World/whereever is telling the world the importance of beauty. And people who are not beautiful on the outside and might be low on self-esteem something like this can be damaging to them.
I know everybody one way or the other wants to be surrounded by beautiful people but is beauty really what you need in a person. Isn't what they are inside really what the world needs? How about a Miss Universe who is a Miss Universe because of what she has contributed to the society to the world to make it a better place ... women like Mother Teresa, Florence Nightingale, Amelia Earhart, Madame Curie etc.

i think that if it were done a different way, then it would be great. if the models weren't all the same size and thought the same things, and basically the same type of girl wins all the time, then i think it would provide a good role model for young girls. however, all they do is dress these girls up like princesses, and claim that they let them win based on answers provided and what they do on there spare time. they judge them based on their looks.

i don't mean any harm, but i am a single mother working full time and going to school full time with a 3.58 GPA. i have been on my own literally since 17(when i say on my own, i mean i don't call mommy and daddy when i can't pay a bill) i don't wear a stitch of makeup and i am still beautiful. this is worthy of miss USA. some one who really stands for the woman, to show that we are more than our looks, we are our brains, we are our children, we are the ones that keep things together because a woman's strength is different from a man's. that is what should be awarded,

I don't think they are important to society at all. Just another swimsuit model.

i feel it is very artificial as well. beauty is only in the eye of the beholder. we do get praised in gods ways. that is the human way.
