we bought the car used, about a month or so after buying it, it wouldn't start (it's a Ford Contour SE by the way) We took it to Ford to have em look at it, and they found that the starter needed to be replaced. About a month after we had that done it wouldn't start again and we took it back and they told us it was a faulty part and replaced the starter again. It's been a little over a month now and the car is having the same problems. My fiance' has a theory it's electrical as we have had problems with the turn signals since we bought it too, Ford looked at it and said it was an electrical problem (with the turn signals) and they apparently fixed it. Now the turns signals have completely gone out so my fiance' tried replacing the fuses, but that did nothing. Which is why he thinks it may be connected to the problem with the starter, and that it may be electrical. I am just frusterated cuz Ford should know the most about a Ford car and if they can't find the problem, who can?

It does click but wont start. We did get a carfax report and everything was fine on it.
We have had no other problems with it, just with the starter going out and the turn signals going out. Sometimes though it almost seems as if putting your foot on the brake or not makes a difference in being able to get it to start. At least until it actually goes out completely.

I want to help you but I need to know:
What is problems you are you having with the starter?

Are you starting the car with ALL electrical systems OFF? Lights off, radio off, wipers off, fans off, etc?

does it click but not turn the motor? If you have replaced the starter with a new or rebuilt starter then I would guess this may be bad electrical wiring in the car. This is typical of cars that have been underwater (!!!) did you check this car through car-fax??
You may consider replacing the battery harness from the battery to the starter and alternator, buy it new if you can

Does it spin (whirl) or click when you try to start it? could be flat spots on the flywheel, replacing the flywheel would involve dropping the engine (big $$) this is caused by turning on the starter while the engine is running

Do you turn the key and (sometimes ) NOTHING happens? Does the starter get going only some of the time? and after several turns?
The ignition switch in the steering column could be worn out. That would need to be replaced, $100 from the guy who does insurance repairs

If the light switches are giving you problems also, the car may have been stolen once and the column wiring messed up. Or the iginition was replaced poorly and it messed up the column wiring

Does the battery constantly die? This could be bad wiring or a bad grounding somewhere in the car. This is VERY TYPICAL of cars with after-marker installed stereos and Kickers.

I hope you can add some more details, I bet we can diagnose it

Okay Clicking but not starting
Starters have solenoids, this should be replaced with the starter
this is the usual trick

if there is a flat spot on the flywheel, you can check for it like this:
put the car in drive WITH THE VEHICLE OFF (this car has an automatic trans, right?)
push it even a little, then back in nuetral or park, then try starting
this make take a few tries, you are trying to get the flat spot to rotate away from the starter
If this works (gets the car started) likely you have a flat spot
If you can't get the car started and this solution works again you definately have a flat spot

for the starter it could be that Ford just got a bad batch of starters... that has happend to me after the 3rd starter it was fine... the electrical problem could be that there is wire where the plastic coating has worn thin and its shorting out somewhere... keep taking it back but if they are refixing things refuse to pay the deductible on the warrenty

Ask to see the service manager and ask him the phone number of Ford customer relations.Explain that you bought this car with the intention of driving it not having to keep bringing it back.No satisfaction phone Ford yourself.

If Ford fixed it, it should still be under warranty, take it to another ford dealer, you will probably get a better Mechanic.
