I was wondering if this is a complicated process and if I should just let professionals do it.

The stereo in my car currently is the one that came with the car.

My car currently has two slots, one for the radio/cassette, and one below it for the cd player. They are of equal size and shape. The new stereo I will buy is the size of only one of these slots, what do I do with the other slot? I've seen a shelf like thing take this place up in other cars, how would I go about doing this?

you should get a professional to do it. you can go to Best Buy and buy a stereo and they put it in for you (for a little fee) because they have to get a special installation kit, because every type of car is different.

thats what i did, and they do an outstanding job because they put one in my Oldsmobile when i had it and it looked sweet!!!

Go to Best Buy because they are professionals

Ask where you buy the replacement stereo. Most places will do the install for a reasonable price.

There are trim kits that will finish the opening to look good. These are a "must have" if there is a size difference between the old and the new.

More important is the wiring. Make sure you get GOOD instructions on the wiring for your car and the new stereo. Sometimes they have adapters that will make it very easy, other times you're in trouble.

Work the salesman over to get the best price on the install and have them do it. If they short something out them they can fix it.

replace the top one with the radio/cassette. if ur new radio has a cd player as well, use the blanks that came with it and fill in the cd player hole after u uninstall it. the hardest part is the wiring. even though they should all be color coded, its frustrating so make sure u leave enuf slack wen u cut the old ones. unless u buy the adapter. sometimes u can get an adapter to plug the old wires right into the new stereo. if not, solder each wire connection. theres different size radio holders the new radio shuda came with. use one that u like, it cud be flush mount or let it protrude out. lastly, dont force out anything, u wanna leave all the factory parts intact so wen u snap the new stuff in place, it'll be a tight fit. good luck.

If you're not technologically inclined, this is a job best left to professionals. Try your local Circuit City or some such. There should be car audio places listed in the phonebook, nearby to you. A typical install should cost no more than $60.
