Actually they are files that Windows has compressed to save disk space. Windows does this automatically to files that have not been accessed in a long time.
The next time the file is accessed it will be uncompressed.
This is an OS function that can be turned off.
There is no User interface to use this OS compression or decompression function.

It could be an encrypted or compressed file.

You can find out for sure if you select "Tools" and then select "Folder Options".

Click the "View" tag.

Towards the very bottom of the scroll-down window there is an option to "Show encrypted or compressed NTFS files in color".

If it is checked, then that explains the colors. If not, then I'm not sure what it means. But I'm almost positive that this will be the reason.

Good luck.

it means that the folder has got a hyperlink.

this usually happens when you have moved something from a shared folder there. The link is automatically created.

You mean the Windows explorer where you view what's in your computer, don't you?

Because, I think some people have confused that with Internet Explorer in the earlier replies.

Cheers.

It's a link to an e-mail address or to another webpage. You might be able to download this file.
