The bottom line is MONEY and GREED. If you can sell a dozen 2 oz. donuts for $5.00 instead of selling a dozen 4 oz. donuts for the same price, it doubles your PROFIT.
Period. Get it? All commercial companies are trying to MINIMIZE what they have to put OUT, and MAXIMIZE the money they get back.
--EVEN the paper towel companies, they make the paper towels smaller, but sell the rolls for the same price. Get it?

BEcause the ones you are buying now are corporate garbage. All the chains blow and all the super Bakerys that sell to super markets blow.
You have to find a local dMOM and POP donut shop. They are the only ones that sell good donuts anymore. They are fading fast becasue of crap *** places like Dunkin Donuts, who wouldn;t know what a donut was if they used it as a Hula HOOP.
It really is too bad. I grew up in East Boston and there used to be three Donut shops. Now there are 3 Dunkins instead. Needless to say, I never eat donuts anymore.

My problem isn't that they're smaller so much as everyone's trying to make them like Krispy Kreme donuts. I happen to like cake-y donuts, personally, and they're getting harder and harder to find because bakeries seem to think that everyone wants the melt-in-your mouth fluff that is Krispy Kreme.
Smaller donuts are really better, if you think about it. Portion sizes are getting waay out of control these days - it's one of the major reasons why so many people are overweight. I don't deprive myself of the occasional treat, otherwise I'd binge, but no one needs a donut the size of a hubcap. A few bites to cut the craving is a good way to go.
Good health is all about moderation, after all.

Actually, Glazed donuts are just as big now as they were in 1971... it's just that your expectations are so much more... as in "Hey... supersize me!".
Personally, I stopped eating Glazed donuts years ago but that doesn't mean I don't still love them.

Think they made them small for folks wanting to lose weight. Don't think they thought aboutthe fact that they would just eat more.
