Abomination is a mistranslation, likely deliberate.
The original word was unclean, that is, unfit to go before god in prayer, requiring a period of abstaining from approaching the altar or needing a ritual cleansing. A difficult idea for christians to appreciate, but a common concept in eastern religions like judaism, islam, hinduism.
Yes, habitual uncleanness was a capital offense under mosiac law. Harsh as it seems to modern people, the ancient isrealites had far more in common with the barbaric tribes of contemporary Afghanistan than they do with modern jews or christians.

abomination=something that is immoral, disgusting, or shameful (per the English dictionary)
It isn't like a monster but rather like a description of the way homosexuality is to God...it is an immoral, disgusting, and shameful act
I think you should watch your son with anyone personally. There are a lot of sick people out there.
However, just because your son is around a gay person doesn't mean he is necessarily in danger of getting hurt by this gay person. I think the concern is if this guy likes guys...and your son is a guy...there could be a potential opportunity the gay guy to want to do sexual acts on your son. Of course you may know your brother in law very well...your trust in him as a man of character and integrity should be the deciding factor of how close your son is to him.

An abomination is a question such as this one.
Maybe Christians do think that gay people are monsters, but some gay people might say the same of self-righteous, critical, holier-than-thou, indignant Christians, so it's a toss.
The abominable snowman factors into none of this, believe it or not.

Witchcraft, adultery, and homosexuality. Divination, enchanter, or a witch, etc. are expressly called abomination (Deut. 18: 9 ff). Many of the practices of some of the Eastern Religions and of New Agers come under these headings. "Abominations" is applied to adultery in Leviticus 18: 17-27. Homosexuality is also included in the list, "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind; it is abomination" (vs. 22).
Prayer of disobedient, dishonesty, and justifying the wicked and condemning the just. Proverbs 28: 9 states, "He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination." The Book of Wisdom enunciates another general truth, "A false balance is abomination to the Lord…" (Prov. 11: 1). Those who justify the wicked and condemn the just, "…they both are abomination to the Lord" (Prov. 17: 15).
Thank you and have a nice day:)

Hi Jim, You know that I'm a Christian. No, I don't think gay people are monsters. I certainly am not attracted to nor do I desire to fornicate with every male I see. So isn't it very foolish to assume that gay men/women are attracted to and want to fornicate every man/woman they see. To be afraid is foolish and self-righteous. What makes heterosexuals think they are the cat's meow in the eyes of a homosexual. As much as you know that I believe it is a sin, the bottom line is they are only trying to do what I've done: find a companion, build a home and family. I bet my answar surprises you doesn't it. Lina.

"Gay" is not some sort of disease you get by standing to close to them.
I have never seen a recruitment table at college asking people to join the Gay Party, like I do with the Young Republicans or Dow Chemical.
And what truly is "an abomination"? Watching people getting slaughtered in Darfur, isn't that more of an abonimation than some guy parkin' his Buick in another guy's storage shed?

Abominable means disgusting an adjective describing something (foul ), abomination means disgust (the state of an emotion or act; noun). I wouldn't group all people together. Perhaps, there are Christians who do not understand or tolerate the sin of homosexuality but the Bible state do not judge, lest ye be judged. Love an individual for who they are as a person, do not judge them for their mistakes or sins, that is for God to do. i would not keep a relative away from your child unless he exhibits perverted behavior which then it is not homosexuality but a pedophile and that is a crime. It is not contagious to be a homosexual, that's homophobia. but overall you can tell an individual you do not approve of their lifestyle but still love them as a person and pray for them.

No; we are Christians and do not believe gays are monsters. We think homosexuality is a sin, we also sin too. It is quite possible for straights to sin more than gays.
That is not the point of Christianity to count up the sins to see who wins. We all sin and God has the power to forgive and save us all. God hate the sin not the sinner. Anything else is someone misusing Christs name to get their way

Yah, they mean the same thing. But, abominable snowmen were called that not only because of their appearance, but because the local people considered them dangerous man eaters, and children snatchers. So, it referrs to their behavior as well.
