Yes, they have black people, mostly from the US bases, but I do know a couple that are retired and stayed there, the population of the black people is usually around the bases. I have also been to a Japanese flea market and there were some men from Africa there selling items. The further you go out though, you won't see any other races, but Japanese. A friend of mine and her family (African Americans) went on vacation, to somewhere in the country and she said at least 5 different times Japanese came up and asked if they could take their pictures, the reason being they had not seen a black person.....you have to remember Japan used to be a very private country, until after we bombed their country.

First I would learn Japanese if you want to live there, and I would travel there a few times to at least become familiar with the culture and to find out if the reality stands up to your ideas. When you are visiting you could also see how people react to you. Then you will know if they are racist or not. From what I have read Japanese are fairly xenophobic but perhaps that is just from not knowing anyone else. I would also learn as much about their culture as I could and learning the language would be the best way to do this.

Yes, there are black people in Japan, but very few (members of American armed forces, foreign diplomats and businessmen, and a few professional athletes, such as Bob Sapp, and entertainers).
Opinions of black people vary, just as opinions of foreigners in general. In general, the Japanese are very polite and non-confrontational, and this includes even the Japanese bigotry (an old man sitting next to you on an airplane would never say a rude word to you, but call a flight attendant and ask that you be moved because he does not want to sit next to a foreigner; this could happen to a black person, a white person, or even a Korean). Generally, older people tend to be somewhat more hostile (in a non-confrontational Japanese way) than younger people.
Normally, the Japanese do not expect foreigners to speak their language and are pleasantly surprised when a foreign person is able to maintain a conversation in Japanese. A little linguistic goodwill goes a long way in Japan...

there are not many but some black people in japan. but japanese people usually have prejudice agains races other than japanese. But if you say you are from USA they will like you. some of them can be pretty racism, since the country is a island and they dont have much experience with multiculturism. But it depends. If you would really like to go there its would be a great experience. Tokyo is a fun place

Japan is a small island nation. It does not have a multi-cultural community. Chinese, and Koreans of about a million people make up the largest minority groups. There are about a quarter of a million Brazilian in Japan, some of them are black people.
And some are black servicemen from the US.
And there're some black baseball players in Japanese baseball teams.

I would not worry about discrimination in Tokyo. It's a hip and tolerant city, with tens of thousands of people of all ethnic backgrounds. Sure, there's racism in Japan, but no where near the degree that exists in the U.S. or some European countries like Germany. Go for a visit, see and feel first hand. You'll probably feel comfortable there.

On TV, the Japanese only want you to see Japanese people. However, there are multi-race citizens who are born to Japanese women. The problems, the childern of mixed race have a difficult time in Japan. The ones who are grown have difficulty fitting in their own country,
The black people in America have it better than most every country. Japanese people are culture people, never accepting black people or any other race. But if you go to your ancestry home of Africa, it is even worse.
Been there; done that

Take a vacation of 90 days or more before you make a decision to relocate to the country. Japan is an asian country so that should assist you.
Good Luck
