I am a Registered Dietitian in NYC and I keep seeing all these people post questions about how they can lose a ton of weight in a very short period of time.

Let me break it down for you. It is very unhealthy for you to lose more than 2 pounds per week first of all. Losing weight too quickly puts too much of a strain on your body.

Also, you know that phrase "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is"? Well, guess what? It's true!!! All of these diets and diet pills and promise to make you lose 100 pounds in a month DO NOT WORK!!! And even if they do make you lose a little bit of weight, you will most likely gain it right back once you stop the diet or diet pills.

The only way to lose weight in a healthy and safe way is with a proper diet and exercise program. So, please stop asking how to lose 50 pounds in a month, it's not going to happen!!

So true. I struggle with maintaining a healthy weight. I've tried lots of get thin quick schemes. I'd say the best thing I ever did that kept off the pounds for years was to eat 6 times per day, watching calories (Portion Sizes!!) Exercise and lots of water. Its slow goings but it works. Everytime!!

People want instant gratification. A way to get people to think differently is to ask them how much they would weigh today if they started by lossing 5 pounds in one week then 1 pound each week after that one year ago. That would be 56 pounds less by the way.

Amen culinary... I quit answering the questions from people like that. Mostly because they want something for nothing, have unrealistic expectations, and probably won't put in the hard work necessary to see results.

Pretty much explains why we have a weight problem in the US.
