Competition. Folks don't want to share "trade secrets" in fear that they will be run out of business by the competition- building a better mousetrap.
People interacting amongst each other, many- have the same philosophy. Go "learn on your own- what you need to know".
It is common knowledge that many people get pleasure from the failure and pain of others.

If you are speaking financially, it is because it is difficult enough to take care of ones self. If you are speaking in other ways (emotionally, spiritually etc...) I don't know! It does not cost us anything to be nice or sympathetic!
