Pre wash and rinse the dishes before putting them in the machine. Also clean the interior of the machine, ex specially the bottom.

Try using a dishwasher washer. You can buy them in all big supermarkets, you peel the top off the container and do a full wash with the dishwaher empty apart from the cleaner.
Before you use it squirt some onto a clean cloth and wipe it around the bottom, sides and inside of the door

Also completely remove all the parts around your filter, usually a big flat metal/plastic plate. Clean this thoroughly as it sounds like you have a collection of lint.

try using a dishwasher cleaner you just put it in an empty dishwasher and put it on a wash cycle.
I use 4 in 1 tablets which u don't need extra salt and rinse aid in the machine .
I've used the powerball tablets and other brands but found Tesco where best value for money.
If you are still having problems try a liquid cleaner for dishes.

I got this when I used Tesco's own brand of washing tablets or any other cheap ones for that.

Switched back to Finish and all was fine.

Also your washer could need a clean, use one of those finish cleaning bottles, you just put it into an empty washer and put on a full cycle, cleans and does its thing.

It sounds like you are using a dishwashing powder as the soap. Try using a liquid form of dishwashing soap.

Kango Man has beaten me to it, word for word - at least take the trouble to get the worst of the muck off the dishes/plates first.
