OKay since I got my puppy 2 weeks ago he has always walked in circles and kinda gets a little wobly on his feet sometimes as well as drinks a ton of water. He is 5 months old so I took him in to get fixed this morning and brought up these problems 30 minutes later I get a call saying they needed to do blood work because they think there is something wrong with his liver chunt? They said if thats what it is he will need to go somewhere else for surgery.

My question is has anyone else had a dog with liver problems? Could it be something else besides he liver?

Just got a call from the vet. It's not his liver? Now they are telling me they aren't sure why he walks in circles is at time wobbley on his feet or why he drinks as much water as he does.
They said the blood test not only showed that it wasn't his liver but the he isn't diabetic and it's not his kidneys.
I'm so confused right now.

A liver shunt is a serious condition. It is a vessle that bypasses the actual liver and therefore waste products miss the liver and are not filtered out and make the dog sick. They can do some blood work to tell if the MAY be the case or to rule it out. Get the blood work done. It may not be a liver shunt at all. I have a cat that had one as a kitten and it was COSTLY to fix!!!!!!!

But it could be soemthing totally different!!! Do not panic until you get some information!!!

I lost a 5 year old dog due to liver failure. Do you have reason to doubt your vet? It sounds to me that they are doing all the right things. It is most unlikely that they would ring you and tell you what they have if they didn't have good cause to believe what they have told you. They have recognised a problem very quickly, want to perform the tests they need to do and are keeping you informed and asked your permission presumably to run those tests. The blood work they mention will give them results which will enable them to assess the efficiency of the liver function and the build up of toxins in the blood among other things. If there are questions you want to ask then ring your vet and ask . I wish you and your pup a good outcome to this. Kind regards,Kath

One of my dogs had liver shunt and we took her to K state for sugary. So is now fine.

But befor she had good days and bad. She had an episode that was almost a serzsher. Some times see was very out going and other days she was timid. The tail tell thing is she could not control her blader well.

Also ask about JRD that is a reanal deseze. I hope it is not that as there is nothing you can do with that.
