You should go to a doctor for an answer to that question. Its very easy to do more damage to an already damaged knee. Your doctor might recommend that you go to a Physical Therapist. A Physical Therapist would then have you do exercises to strengthen you knee, and make sure you don't do anything that could hurt it.

I also prefer to exercises at home. I would stay off a treadmill. I used to run daily on my treadmill, but a few years ago, broke the bone just below my kneecap on the treadmill as a stress fracture. The impact is what did it. I now use an elliptical, and wore a brace on my knee for awhile. Now the brace no longer fits and I have built up the muscles around my knee and in my legs and feel great. Still working out though and would still like to drop a few pounds. Good Luck.

Sounds like you've probably been doing alot of lunges to be hurting your knee or squats without the correct technique. You should be avoiding exercises with lots of Impact. Youd be able to do your abdominal exercises without any worries but you definately need to be seeing a Specialist until your ready. A step machine would help cause the impact is at very minimal and steps are also a good workout for Buns if you dont youd prolly subsitute to climbing the stairs with good shoes.

If you have an exercise bike, that is one of the best things for the knee...if you have access to a pool, there are exercises for the knee that are great in the pool as well...you should definitely stretch your hamstrings out, your quad muscles as well in your legs because everything is linked to the knee...if you want detailed exercises, contact me and i'll give you some

I have a similar problem. If you have or have access to a pool, I suggest doing some water aerobics. I do this at my local YMCA and it can be quite a workout when it is done right. It is low-impact but there is a lot of resistence.

avoid HIGH impact workouts, Ie. RUNNING, JUMPING ROPE, ETC

If you have a pool, thats the best for you. LOW to NO impact workouts.
Walking- rollerblade, bike.. etc. are good

Also, avoid leg lunges, squats, etc... and stay off it as much as possible... if it still hurts in a few weeks, see a doctor, an orthopedic specialist.

I suggest seeing a physician...until you canget an appointment, maybe you should wrap it with a knee band.
