coz we aren't good stewards, fond of using without replanting.

I assume you meant desert.
I really think the logging industry is taking care of the tree situation quite well. Since they make their money with trees they are continually replanting the areas they harvest. Not to mention all the privately owned land that people will not sell that covers millions of square miles full of trees. I'm not sure where you live, but the last time I checked the maps there have been no new deserts created since logging became a large industry. Try concentrating on a more noble cause like starving children in rural America. Those kids suffer everyday and it won't take a thousand years before you see any results from your efforts.

Not sure why this is in the religion section, but ... paper companies plant at least 10 trees for every one that they cut down. They have an economic incentive to keep as many trees around as possible. What makes you think they're turning the planet into a desert?

Trees that we use today are now farmed, just like potatoes. So trying to reduce the amount of wood we use would mean that fewer trees would be farmed, so then there would be less trees around the world. So if you really want to save trees, use more wood. Really. Also, if we are really destroying nature, how come we have 3 times as many trees today than we did in the 1920's?

Because we are selfish. We don't look beyond our own needs and desires, as a society, to see the greater good or the terrible harm that could be the result of our actions. However, the good news is that many states in the USA now require reforestation if you demolish a large tree-filled area (I'm sure there are number/measurement requirements), even if that demolition happened many years ago. It is necessary to replace what we have so that we don't run out of resources that can't hope to outpace us.

Your example of chopping down trees isn't a good one because we can "renew" that resource by replanting. A better example would be Oil which is a diminishing resource with no source for renewal. Unfortunatly there are those that believe that God (if there is one) gave us dominion over the Earth. That meaning has expanded to mean that we can exploit it's resources without a second thought. PEACE!

NO. We need to harvest the trees, but do it responsibliy, and relace them with new ones for future harvesting.
What would you write with or on, if you couldn't cut down a tree? What would you use for all the paper products we depend on every day of our lives?

We should pay attention to the damage we're doing to the planet. I wondered about that myself and lately I heard something that both concerned me and annoyed me:
Christians are convinced that God will replenish the earth and because of that they should exploit this planet as much as possible.
Could you imagine this greedy logic?
These people are crazy and gluttonous. They always find bible chapter and verse to justify their selfcenteredness!

Well, since we plant more trees than we chop down, your question is moot, and spectacularly misinformed.
