panic attacks may be linked to an anxiety disorder. i would check online for anxiety disorder, consider the symptoms and then consult your family doctor if you feel you may have this disorder on some level or another. if you are going through a particularly rough patch then maybe your panic attacks are isolated incidents in which case there are simple things you can do to eleviate the symptoms. yoga, breathing, no alcohol, lots of sleep, meditation, reading, relaxing and talking about it when you feel it coming on, staying inside your head when you're panicking just makes it worse. if you have an actual anxiety disorder then you may consider medication to "take the edge off" but this can be addictive and not good for your anxiety in the long run. i've suffered with anxiety and panic attacks for over 10 years. it comes and goes, i find talking about it most helpful and realizing the reality of it being a disorder rather than the onset of something terrible about to happen helps as well. yoga and massage have helped greatly as well. Good Luck!!! ... and yes, panic attacks are associated with mental health - it's important to know that.

First I would reccomend seeing your usual physician. S/he can then refer you to a specific psychiatrist or other specialist if s/he thinks it is necessary. Depending on your doctor's specific background, s/he may be able to help you her/himself. However, if s/he can't, your personal doctor is usually the best person to reccomend a specialist for you, rather than just looking one up in the yellow pages or otherwise.

If you do not have a regular personal physician, if you are having panic attacks, this would be a good time to find one. Word of mouth is usually the best way to find a good doctor; if you can have a friend or relative reccomend a good one, you will be in good shape.

Good luck!

You have to go to either a Psychiatrist or a Psychotherapist. Both will give you counseling and help discover the root of your panic attacks. The difference between them is one can prescribe, the other can not. So if you feel you need med, best to see a psychiatrist.
Good luck!

Panic attacks are an excessive, acute exacerbation of anxiety. There is NO definite cure for them -- you alone can control them.
Management of panic attacks:
a)Behaviour therapy
b)councilling
c) yoga
d)relaxation techniques and exercises

...for which you can go to a psychologist.
Now.. for acute management.. and medical management - sedatives, hypnotics, diazepam, muscle relaxants... only a doctor can prescribe them as they aren't available over-the-counter -- you need to go to a psychiatrist, who is licensed for just that purpose, and also qualified to give you necessary cousilling.
However, you must remember.. as I keep telling people I know who suffer from panic attacks.. I know its terrible when youre going thru it, but panic attacks are under YOUR control alone. ..They are a problem of the mind.. you are human bcoz of your mind, your brain, that is under YOUR control.. and noone can help you if you dont first helkp yourself. No medication, exercises nothing can help you if you dont make a conscious effort to cure yourself. Only a strong will to heal yourself and be calm and cope with situations around you can help.

Find yourself a PSYCHIATRIST. Panic attacks involve Mental Health. Do not go to your regular doctor, sometimes they misdiagnose.

This happened to my DH, and he got very very sick.

Good luck!

Definitely go to a psychiatrist. Skip the psychologist, because a psychiatrist will talk to you about it and can prescribe medication to help with your issues. Good luck, I've been there!
