Why then do we need this book at all , why can't the Holy Spirit just impart all the knowledge we need and bypass all the confusing crap in scripture that causes so much division?

The bible is not that confusing have you tried reading it?

Chief among the reasons is that humans aren't so good at listening, leaving aside the difficulties they have with learning.
The Bible is a love letter from God to his Chosen--which is basically everyone, by the way. It can be read on a number of different levels, as can most writing. Think of a thrown baseball: it takes a lot more energy to get it into motion than it does to alter its course. Same with the human mind--knowledge and the gaining thereof requires a matrix into which to fit it--The Bible provides that matrix, the Holy Spirit just points out the finer points you might otherwise miss. And occasionally provides applications to your life specifically.
And who told you you can't successfully read the Bible without the aid of the HS? Have you ever tried? If not, I suggest you pick up a copy--try the New King James--and give it a try. Start with Genesis and just keep reading--you'll be amazed what you can learn. And there's always something new to see. A tip: don't just read the words, think about them.
And praying wouldn't hurt, either. God is always happy to hear from His children.

The Holy Spirit is God.
He does impart knowledge from time to time.
You did ask an intelligent question.
I truly wish I had a great answer for you.
Word of mouth goes just so far. It goes on and then becomes distorted ( added to and subtracted from )
The written word goes on and on.
You can always go back to it and see the same words again and again.
I prefer the written word.
At my work, the people are very careful as to what is written down. Why? Because if it is incorrect, you can be caught up with.
My company uses the whacker- roo method of dealing with people who don't do their jobs correctly.
I hope that this was helpful.

Without the Bible it is impossible to know who is talking in your head. Is it you? Is it the Holy Spirit? Is it Satan? With God's word---the Bible---it is possible to compare what we hear in our heads with what God's word says. If it does not jive with the Bible, then it is our feeble minds making it up or it is the voice of the devil. Also, our brain cannot possibly recall everything that it takes in; therefore, the Bible is a handy reference. There is nothing confusing about the Bible if you spend time studying it under competent guidance. You will not grasp it in a day or a month or a year---it takes a lifetime of devotion. Remember, a life in Christ is not just for the moment, but for all eternity---what you invest in this life will carry over into the next. Those who do something with their salvation will be rewarded for it, but those who waste their time after accepting Jesus will have nothing to offer God when they stand before he. Jesus loves you.

If as you're told, eh? See, there's your problem. You're going off of what you've been told. You might try reading it yourself sometime. The division is not caused so much by what the bible says, but by people not liking what it clearly says. But you'd only know it's pretty clear on these things if you read it. Or did you not really want an answer to this question either?

Exactly.

It's because if that was the case, the spiritually dead hypocrits who use their religion to bludgeon people wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
If the Bible didn't exist, mankind would invent it. It's important to look at the book from an historical perspective, especially regarding the creation myths and also the rules for how we are supposed to live. Saying that GOD will send you to HELL might be more of a deterrant than saying that society will be damaged if you take X action.

Whenever someone claims to have received a message, knowledge or understanding from the Holy Spirit it must be checked against scripture; the Holy Spirit and scripture will never disagree.
The purpose of this is to protect against the type of charlatan who tries to bring shame on the name of Christ.
The principle is the Judaic/ Christian one of proof based on witnesses - the common basis of most of western judicial systems.

The Holy Spirit would not frequently use a pc. The "Bible Code" is organic nonsense, as has been established time and time back by doing similar pc searches on different printed texts.

It's a confusing book with or without holy or unholy spirits.
And as for those who see "prophecies," there's as much evidence of that as there is of that bearded resident of the North Pole. If you are seeking spirituality, you do NOT need the bible. If you are seeking knowledge, there is very little of it there either.

Jesus gave the word of God to man for to learn of God's love for us. the church decided for us what we were to be allowed to be told. i.e. dead sea scrolls} they did this in order to control men and have them be at there every beck and call. why do think the church is so powerfull for some. i did not turn my back on the church. i do not believe all they try to teach but some i do. like God's love for us. ourr God is not so mean and cruel that he would sentence us to an eternity of fire and brimstone. his love is everlasting and ever forgiving. trust in him alone. for he will never let you down. might not always be what we want, but God knows whats best. y;ou have to pick and choose what you feel is right for you, for all paths lead to the Godhead. let God lead you and not the church or what they want you to believe. I'm not saying all Church's are bad, lord no. we have within the ability to know truth from fiction. later books of the bible that were hidden away have come to light and given validity to my beliefs. the church that i have found that comes closest to what i believe is the gnostic faith. they believe as i do and know that God loves us. try visiting on our group. yahoo.com, groups. Magdalene group.
blessed be to you in your search for the truth.
blessed be,
