You may recall the same thing happened in Vietnam and the USA eventually went home with tail between legs after years of causing absolute mayhem for no good reason. When will they ever learn?!

First...... they aren't troops. They're fanatics.
Second. It's become a guerrilla war. Who is the enemy? There isn't any country that can possibly "win" in a situation like this,so your statement about how powerful the US is doesn't have any bearing or relativity whatsoever. If you were ever involved in something like this you'd understand. The enemy can be standing right next to you.... you'd never know until they "pull the cord" and blow up a lot of innocent people. Our government needs to review Viet-Nam and the casualty count from that "action". The Mall is running out of Monument space.

The history of gorilla warfare shows that only when the general population is secure enough and has enough belief and support for the army fighting the gorillas can the gorilla forces be defeated. We are not gaining the support of the people of Iraq. This is a direct result of the failure of the Secretary of Defense to commit enough troops and civil action planning into the initial war-plan.

Well, your time in the military as a mess kit repairman, I'm sure you have no clue how anything is done. Your "rag tag" group of "men" hide behind women and children. They come out under the cover of darkness because of their fear. US Military has rules of engagement. Your "men" do not.
The only person here who eats crow everyday is you with your foolishness.
Your and assbag. Get a life.

The war we are fighting does not have a military solution, it is a political war that can only be solved with political solutions. You cannot fight a political situation with more and more firepower, it simply does not work. We have to win the hearts and minds to use a well worn phrase. I don't know if we are doing that in Iraq or not. The media tends to dwell on casualties and incidents but as far as what the average Iraqi thinks I have no idea.

because this type of war is like trying to kill flies and mosquitoes with a gun, not the right tool or method, will destroy more things than kill, and all in all, you will probably never kill one with it.

the american army was designed to counter another heavy force, not for guerrila warfare, though we do have special untis for that and we are slowly adapting our army for it, it will never happen under the current rules of war, rules of engagement and the US military constant belief in tradition.

we will never beat what we define as terorism, since its a form of warefare, the only way we will be able to win against the ideals which drive people to use this warfare against us is for a change in foriegn policy and domestic policy, a big change, which the USA is not about ever to do for a long time at least.

In modern warfare nations under the rule of law must fight two enemies...the one on their front and one even more insidious than any insurgent hidden under an orphanage--Misguided Public Opinion.

When lawful nations like the U.S. and Israel go on the offensive, hundreds of thousands take to the streets in protest. Yet when "rag tag" forces behead hostages, bomb nightclubs and lob unguided rockets into schoolyards these "champions of peace" remain silent in their homes.

When you are weaker than your enemy, it's common practice to get them engaged on two fronts, divide their forces and weaken them. Today, the media is that other front and our enemy is taking great comfort and encouragement from them...

Also, I assume "erudite" is meant to be ironic.

The reason is because, the US army fight because they are paid to and the rag tag group fight for a belief (no money). Throughout history, those who fight for a principle (rag tag groups/Vietcong...) always win.

The usa is very very very powerful. they did win and defeated the iraq army. what they are fighting now are civilians. its not like everyone attacking the us army has on army clothes. instead they are dressed like the civilians they are. The USA is now occupying iraq. not fighting their army. thats why there are casualites. they are fighting rebels.
