Elegant is better to describe a woman's fingers or hand. Graceful is better for a child. A girl child's hand and fingers are delicate and graceful.

Graceful is for the complete self. Elegant is for the parts. So Elegant is more appropriate to illustrate the lovely fingers of a baby-girl.

Are they "as delicate as fine china"? Elegant sounds too old for an 8 y.o., graceful is OK if they actually are. For instance, does she play piano, embroider beautifully, perform some specific task with her fingers in which she shows exceptional agility and grace?
